About this Cook
No, it isn't a mistake that I have listed myself as a beginning cook, but I've been cooking for 10+ years. I can follow a recipe quite well, especially with the great tips from Allrecipe's members, but haven't been able to progress to the next level. I love food...just love it more when it is made by somebody else.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking, mostly because I enjoy eating the results.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and sister are wonderful cooks, so our tradition is for me to peel the potatoes or something and let them take care of the rest.
My cooking triumphs
When I volunteered to bring the pies for last Thanksgiving, I noticed my mom's...ehem...hesitation. So, I bought the pies from Macrina, a great local bakery. They were fantastic. But, for Christmas I decided to make the pies myself. They turned out great, surprising my mom and myself. I think I’ll bring pies every year. Finally, as I approach 40, I have graduated from bringing the rolls!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 16 I made a Kahlua cheesecake. I bought all the ingredients myself, except I “borrowed” the Kahlua from my parents. I mixed the eggs into the hot mixture, effectively hard boiling them. The cheesecake had all these hard little bits of egg. It was disgusting. I had to throw it away.

Cinnamon-Apple Chex(R) Mix
This is ok, but not good enough to make again. I brought this recipe and traditional Chex Party mix to our Christmas gathering. The traditional mix was gone nearly instantly, and hardly any of the Cinnamon Apple mix was eaten.

Salted Caramel Sauce
Amazing! I can't believe something I made tastes this delicious. I ruined the first batch because my enamel cast iron pot was bigger than the burner, and the sugar crystallized on the edges. I tried breaking it up with my spatula, but ended up with bits of silicone in the sauce. Moved to high-sided sauce pan and the second batch turned out great.

Signature Pumpkin Pie
Mmmm...this is very good pumpkin pie. I used a pre-made graham cracker crust, and it really took 5 minutes to make. Easy as pie. :) Next time I'll use a homemade crust. My favorite is Chef John's Easy Homemade Pie Crust.
