About this Cook
My name is Stephanie, I have an almost 4 year old (pickiest eater in the entire world). I'm always looking for recipes to try I have to stick with the basics to try to get my daughter to eat more.
My favorite things to cook
I tend to cook a lot of chicken dishes (stir fries, pastas, etc.) I get into baking mode and do cookies and sweet breads. I like to try new things and then the second time around really modify a recipe to make it my own.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our Thanksgiving spread is amazing! We have such a wide variety of dishes and it's really special. Not only do we do the traditional roast turkey, but we have chicken pot pie, fried rice, curry, and all kinds of other goodies.
My cooking triumphs
I've got my homemade chicken pot pie down and that's probably my greatest success story yet.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made my own savory pie crust I accidentally used nasty old crisco sticks and it ended up tasting almost like chemicals. It was completely inedible because the flavor permeated the entire pot pie and I was so bummed!

Cliff's Hot Sauce
I used 2 or 3 Serrano peppers and enjoy their kick more than jalapeños. The key is to add 1/2 tablespoon or so of white sugar. It cuts the acidity of the canned tomatoes perfectly & really improves the salsa.

Broccoli Chicken Divan
I was looking for a recipe that I could whip up fast for my family and came across this. I used a rotisserie chicken from the store and was able to get this in the oven super fast. I followed the recipe exactly, but left out the melted butter. This meal was prepped, cooked, and out of the oven within 30 minutes and it tasted really good. My 14 month old daughter even enjoyed it and she turns her nose up at everything. My only advice is to let it sit for several minutes once you take it out of the oven- it won't be as watery.

Butternut Squash Soup II
This recipe is as easy as they come and results in a perfectly delicious soup. I never like butternut soups that are too sweet and and I find that this has one has a great balance of flavor. I added garlic which I think goes great with the squash and other ingredients. I also added some cayenne for spice. This is one of the recipes that you can tweak depending on what you have on hand and it will still turn out great every time.
