Angela's Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2001
This is different and quite tasty. I used Jerusalem artichokes instead of potatoes, since we always get a big batch out of our garden and my husband loves them. Creamy and cheesy as can be, and a great side dish to just about anything.

Cocoa Apple Cake

Excellent recipe: moist as can be, and chocolatey. I used milk chocolate chips since I'm not a fan of semi sweet chocolate, and it came out terrific. This is a keeper.

Mom's Cucumbers

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2001
This sounded like a good salad to go along with my turkey and trimmings. I regret to say, but I can't give it more than two stars. Will not make it again.

Absolutely AWESOME! Five stars +. And easy and fast to make, too. Thank you for sharing such a great recipe. It will be a Thanksgiving tradition for us from now on.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2001
Good recipe, but rather time consuming. Next time I'll use store-bought bread cubes or stuffing mix, to decrease the prep time. I added raisins and chopped walnuts.

Cheesy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2001
Most excellent. I've used more cheese than the recipe requires, both in the batter and on top. It came out finger-licking good. Five stars.

Simple But Awesome Lemon Pepper Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2001
Not at all awesome, other than for its simplicity. Despite the generous amount of lemon-pepper I used, the taste was rather bland. My husband had to add a dash of barbecue sauce to give the stuff some taste.

Somewhat time-consuming, but worth it. We really enjoyed it. Five stars.

Bologna Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2001
Pretty good, but time-consuming to make. It seems like it took forever to cube the potatoes. Also, I ended up with a huge pot of soup, much more than I'd expected. If I make it again, I'll halve the amount of ingredients. I made an Irish soda bread to serve it with, and I think they will go well together (will have both for dinner tonight).

Sauerkraut Salad

Not worth the wait. I was disappointed with the recipe. Has a pretty weird taste, and I come close to really disliking it. Won't make it again.

Southern Praline Pecan Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2001
A good cake but not a knockout. Somewhat too sweet. It doesn't cut well and the slices are very crumbly due to the frosting in the batter, which makes it heavy and moist inside. It was fast and easy to make.

Apple Style Omelets

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2001
Tastes weird and it comes out messy looking. It's not possible to keep the omelet in one piece while folding it over an inordinate amount of chopped apples. The thing comes out like a pile of scrambled eggs with a pile of apple on it.

Oven-Fried Pork Chops

Tasty and easy. I used Italian-style bread crumbs instead of the stuffing mix and it worked great.

Grandma Strait's Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2000
This recipe has been far from rewarding for the effort and time involved. Despite my stirring constantly for 45 minutes, the sugar never really melted to give the fudge the smoothness it should have. Moreover, it got burned at the bottom, although I used the low setting on the range. After pouring the fudge in the pan, it hardened like a rock, making cutting difficult. A total waste of time and ingredients.

Cheddar and Bacon Log

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2000
Pretty good recipe. I had to add much more Worchestershire and hot sauce than the recipe specifies. Otherwise, good and easy to make.

Red Velvet Cake IV

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2000
Another recipe trying to fit 10 lbs. of stuff into a 5-lb. bag. Way too much batter for 3 8-in. pans. The recipe should have asked for 3 9-in. pans, and even then I am not sure the batter would have fit properly. The pans kept dripping, making a mess in the oven. Another matter: in step 1 the recipe specifies 350 F as the oven temperature to be used. In step 5, however, the temperature asked for is 325 F. I used 325 F and ended up having to keep the pans in the oven for about 15 more minutes, at 350 F. other than than that, it did come out well, and was highly liked. Will make it again, but using the 9-in. pans.
