Cinnamon Rolls III

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2014
I reduced the sugar a bit, but it's a terrific recipe. Much enjoyed. Thanks for sharing it.

Debbie's Amazing Apple Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
Pretty good, but way too sweet. Also, despite generously greasing the pans with Pam spray, this bread sticks to the bottom every time. If I make it again I would definitely line the pan with aluminum foil; otherwise, you're sure to get a ruined loaf of bread.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
Good bars. No need to grease the pan - only the aluminum foil. Could stand a bit less sugar than the recipe calls for.

Savory Zucchini Chard Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
It is tasty but far from healthy... No kidding about seriously greasing the muffin tin: I used paper liners and the mixture stuck to them like glue. The recipe is also vague when it calls for 8 chard leaves: leaves have various size, depending at what stage the cook picks them. Maybe it should state that you should steam a bunch and obtain xx ounces. Lastly, there is no reason why the shredded zucchini can't be sautéed together with the chard.

Dream Bars II

Reviewed: May 20, 2013
I found that the crust remained crumbly and didn't stick to the top layer. The second time I made the recipe I just greased the pan and skipped the crust. Instead I poured the batter directly into the pan and baked for the indicated 30 minutes. In this version the recipe makes a wonderful batch of brownies.

Cherry Walnut Bars

Toning down the sugars a bit in this recipe won't hurt it at all... Otherwise, very tasty.

Easy No-Bake Milk Chocolate SMore Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2013
Hard to get the melted marshmallow blob to incorporate the additions (chocolate chips, marshmallows, bits of graham crackers). It falls apart easily - especially upon being cut - and the cutting process left some deep scratches in my bamboo cutting board. This is not cookie making but candy making, and there's a big difference... The recipe should really clarify that the marshmallows have to reach a stage where they are melted into a shiny paste, like silk, and at that stage should the chocolate be added. THEN, this confection would come out chewy (as I suppose it should come out) instead of hard and dry. Found that out by many trials (and errors) since I had tripled the quantity of ingredients for a potluck.

Cabbage Balushka or Cabbage and Noodles

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2012
The dish is good, and it does use a lot of cabbage. I added some shredded cheese to it, though, and I think that made it better.

Moist Holiday Honeycake

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2012
Great cake, both in taste and texture (it's like a spice cake). I find, however, that only 1/4 C each of white and brown sugar is sufficient.

Mushroom Olive Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
What it needs added is some water from the olive jar. That will take care of the salt addition part - otherwise, it ends up pretty dry. I would say this is not really a salad, it's a tapenade or bruschetta mixture. Even with the mentioned change, it's nothing that stands out - just average.

Yummy Apple Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
Rather time-consuming but a good, moist cake. I only used 1 1/4 C sugar and it wasn't missed. Also, I didn't have quite 1 C of maraschino cherries, so I added some red candied cherries. It worked out very well.

Outrageously Good Holiday Salad

The grapefruit skins give it a bitter taste in each bite. This hasn't worked out for us at all.

Applesauce Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
This is not a 'bar' but rather a spice cake. If baked in a smaller pan, then it gets to also look like a cake; if baked in a 9x13 pan it's still a cake, but too thin.

Hurricane Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
It tastes great but it's loaded with calories from fat and sugar. To help relieve at least a little of this problem I only used 1 cup of powdered sugar.

Easy-as-Pie Lemon 'Meringue'

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
It was good and simple to make, but I knocked it one star because it is quite time-consuming. Also, the crust ends up having an inordinate amount of fat - it practically swims in fat when you take it out of the oven.

Pumpkin Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
The correct baking time is 18 minutes. The cookies were still raw inside after only 12 minutes. Also, I have found that they should be allowed to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before removing them to the racks. Otherwise, since they're so soft, they break easily.
