Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2010
I wasn't impressed with this at all.For one thing the taste of the hot sauce completely overwhelmed all the other ingredients.Another thing I didn't like was the pool of orange grease that accumulated on top.I tried skimming it off but I couldn't get all of it out.Instead of tossing this in the garbage I used it as a pasta sauce,I hate wasting food.If I ever make this again, and I highly doubt I will,I'd use 2 chopped chicken breasts instead of the canned chicken chunks and cut back on the hot sauce.Take my advice and look for some other dip recipe.

English Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
These were ok but nothing special, certainly not like the English muffins I've bought in the store. With frying these I found they were very doughy inside. If I make these again I'll bake them instead.

Pressure Cooker Chili

This chili was ok but not good enough to make a second time. The taste was missing something but I can't think of what it needs.

Canadian Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
These are pretty good,a lot better than I thought they'd be.I'll make these again but next time I'll use ginger root, thanks Melissa for the idea. And thanks to Manny for the recipe. As for some of the comments about these being sticky....I just greased my cookie sheet with margarine and the cookies came off with no problem.Parchment would work but why bother if they're not sticking.

Lemon Sponge Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
This turned out quite good.I only cooked it for 35 minutes and it perfect then.I can imagine what it would have been like if I kept it in for the time stated in the recipe. Also the recipe never said what size of pan to use so I used my 8" square,it was the right size. The only thing I didn't like about this is that it stuck to the pan, next time I'll grease and flour the pan.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cake

The cake part was ok but the icing was WAY too sweet. If I make this again, which I doubt,I'll whip up some whipping cream and add a teasoon of coffee granules to it and a bit of sugar and vanilla.

Cinnamon Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
It looks like I'm the only one who had this boil over in the oven. After the first 10 minutes I heard something sizzling and then smelled the burning sugar,I opened the oven door to be greeted by a cloud of smoke.I turned the heat down to 300 for the rest of the 45 minutes and that seemed to stop it from boiling over anymore. If I try this again (and that's a BIG if)I'll start it off in a 375 degree oven and go down to 300 and watch it like a hawk. And I'd put the pie plate on top of a cookie sheet just in case. The taste was only so so when I tried it but after it sat awhile the taste improved some.

Fabulous Foolproof Lasagna

Hi Karen1203....here's what the cooks thesaurus ( http://www.foodsubs.com/ ) says about Italian sausages. "This is a pork sausage that's often added to pasta sauces. Varieties include sweet Italian sausage = mild Italian sausage, which is flavored with garlic and fennel seed, and hot Italian sausage, which also has a shake or two of crushed chile peppers. It's sold either as links or in bulk. Cook thoroughly before serving." I'm from Canada too and it's available in just about any grocery store. My favorite Italian sausage is the mild, the fennel tastes great in it.I'll try your suggestion on the bechamel sauce, sounds like a good idea.

Tomato Barley Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
Pretty good soup but I added some chopped left over roast beef, made it even better. If you try this don't forget to add salt,if I hadn't added any, this soup would've been really bland.I'll make this again.

Homemade Ginger Ale

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2007
I've made this 4 or 5 times now, each time I try it with more ginger.I'm trying to get it where it has just the right amount of "bite" from the ginger. The last batch I made with approximately 355 grams of ginger,a WAY lot more than 2 tablespoons.Instead of grating the ginger I run it through my juicer, made for a lot less work and it cuts down on the amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottles(I used 2-1 liter bottles). The next time I make this I think I'll cut the sugar back to 3/4 cup.The juice of one lemon is just right also, any more and it would change the balance of flavors. One other thing I found is that it's carbonated after only 12 hours on my counter, and I live in a basement suite. With my changes what I'm making is basically a ginger beer, but that's what I'm trying to achieve.

This was ok but too greasy with all the cheese and sausage. If I make this again I'll use a low fat cheese and a lean sausage, might help.

Easy Mexican Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
Very good casserole although the fat content is what brings this down. But I confess,I'll definately be making this again.Next time though I'll try lowering the fat by using plain yogurt instead of sour cream and low fat cheese. The only addition I made to this recipe was to add 3 seeded and chopped jalapenos. It had a nice spice level but next time I'll use 4 or 5.I also used jalapeno/cheddar flavored tortilla chips for the base like one other reviewer suggested. Thanks Andrea.

Golden Cake Batter Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
I wasn't impressed at all with this. When it's baked in a tube cake pan you expect it to taste like a cake as well.I could taste the vanilla in this but that wasn't enough to save it from tossing what's left in the garbage.Maybe this is what they used to eat in the 17'th century but not now.In case you can't tell,I won't be making this again.

Herbed Sweet 'n' Sour Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2007
I wasn't impressed with this at all.For the most part there wasn't much sweet or sour taste to this so it would have to be adjusted IF I made this again (which I won't be doing).Secondly the taste of the black pepper was all that I could taste,I'd scale that back to maybe 1/2 Tsp. at the most. With the cayenne pepper in this, there's no need for so much black pepper. You can always tell how well I like a recipe judging by how long it sits in the fridge.I've still got one piece of chicken left and it's been 5 days since I made it so it's not good.

Bruce's Honey Sesame Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
This is my current favorite bread recipe.I didn't bother with the buttermilk powder and just used skim milk powder in place of it.To toast the sesame seeds I put them in my cast iron frying pan over medium low heat and stir them constantly. They'll burn quite easily if you don't stir them.I also doubled this recipe and I make it by hand too.Bake it at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. The color of the bread always turns out golden brown so it's very pleasing to the eye as well as to your taste buds. This recipe will be one I'll be making again and again to share with family and friends.

Rice Pudding V

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2006
This was good but I had trouble with the rice not being quite cooked enough even after 90 minutes. The next time I make this I'll cook the rice ahead of time and add a 1/2 Tsp cinnamon. For an egg-less recipe though I was quite surprised. The taste gets better after a day.

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2006
This was good but I'd much rather make this with steak cut into strips.I used lean hamburger and even after draining the grease off I still found it too greasy. If your going to try this recipe use extra lean hamburger but for the price of it you might as well go with 1 and a half lbs. of steak.

Marianna's Marinated Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2006
This was just ok,it definately wasn't worth 5 stars though. The papper was just too much,if I was to make this again I'd only add 1/2 Tsp pepper instead of the 1 1/2 Tbs called for.
