Food is love, to me. If I care about you and want to show you I care, I cook you something. I once spent all day in the kitchen to serve my valentine a 5 course meal made 100% from scratch.
There was champagne, cambazola cheese, imported prosciutto, shrimp and cocktail sauce, buffalo wings with toasted sesame seeds, mixed green salad with candied pecans and a blackberry vinaigrette, filet mignon, roasted garlic asparagus, crab claws with garlic butter and wine... and about 100 candles.
My favorite things to cook
I will pretend that this says "My favorite things to eat:"
Which would be.. filet mignon, rack of lamb, crab legs and prime rib.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any time the entire family is together in one place at one time I cook one giant family meal and spare no expense. There is not one meal that I do more than once but I always try to one-up the last meal that I made. I love to see the look on their faces when they are truly enjoying a dish.
My cooking triumphs
Risotto: I watched so many tips and tricks to making it that I nailed it the first time I tried it. I was psyched!
My cooking tragedies
I don't know how many times I have tried cooking dishes with complex flavor for kids and have had them turn up their noses at it. I constantly have to remind myself to keep food the children very simple and straight forward.
One time I made chilaquiles with a homemade pepper sauce that took me hours. NONE of the kids ate much. I was so upset I swore for a week that I would never cook again.
