About this Cook
Recently, (within the past year) I have become allergic to all allums (onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, etc). So I took up cooking all my meals instead of quick fixes, canned soup, etc. I can't do that anymore. Onions or garlic are in every thing. I mean EVERYTHING!! Take a look next time you are in the store and read the labe of pre-made processed food. You'll be suprized. Anyway, I'm surving and learning to cook better than I ever could before.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook and bake. I try everything at least once and go with my gut on replacing ingredients. My absolute favorite thing to cook would have to be rice pilaf and roasted chicken. My favorite thing to bake would be chocolate chip cookies, but I use vanilla sugar to add that extra taste to it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a few recipes that are passed down. The favorate among my family and friends are stuffed grapes leaves. When ever I make them for a pot-luck function. They fly off the serving plate. I get request for them too. It's a lot of work. So I don't make them everytime.
My cooking triumphs
Baking, baking....everything I bake comes out awesome. My Christmas cookies are well known at work. I think is my over grown sweet tooth that makes my baking come out well.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made buttercream it didn't come out right. I was so depressed. I kept trying over and over again. Fortunately, I had a roommate who loved to cook. She gave me some pointers. I haven't failed since with my cooked frostings.

Excellent Broccoli Cheese Soup
I made this for myself and my roommates. We all loved it. I made some changes, because I'm allergic to onions & garlic ( obviously I omitted them). But I added boiled potatoes (peeled and diced); bacon bits; instead of processed cheese I used three pounds of shredded cheese (Munster, Swiss, and Montery Jack). The potatoes and bacon made it a bit thicker for the guys.

Sour Cream Chicken Paprika
I removed the onions from the recipe and added corn starch (1 to 2 tsp in 1/4 cup hot water) to thicken the sauce. It took me longer than 40 minutes to have this recipe ready for the table. The sauce wouldn't thicken. Other these two adjustments/problems, I would make the recipe again, because it was flavorful.
