Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Bacon and Caramelized Onions

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2013
This has become a "must have" dish with my dinner group and renamed Sweet Potato Crack. I've learned I can prepare most of it earlier in the day (roast potatoes, fry bacon, caramelize onions)waiting to combine and heat through right before serving.

Vanilla Half-Moons

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2011
These have been a Christmas tradition at our home for years now. Since the dough is rather sticky, I tend to refrigerate and then shape small bits into cresents rather than rolling them into ropes. Instead of powdered sugar, we use vanilla suger so they have an extra vanilla punch

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2010
This is a great base recipe. While I prefer a more spicy chili, my younger children do not and fortunately this is a mild chili that still has a nice flavor. I generally use crushed tomatoes and add beans and 1/2 beer. Beyond that it depends on who is eating whether I add extra chili powder, peppers, cumin, etc. I've even used pumpkin pie filling when pumpkin puree was not available. It made a sweeter chili, but still good. =D

Roasted Potato and Garlic Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2005
Really, really good! We "auditioned" it tonight to see if we wanted to serve it at my big birthday bbq -- it made the cut. Followed another's suggestions by adding onions and substituting jarred roasted red peppers.

Christmas Cornflake Wreath Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2003
This recipe is very similar to one I grew up with but we call them Holly Cookies -- we just don't add the extracts. Some advice for the cooks with difficulties. If the cookies are too sticky, the butter and marshmallow were not cooked long enough. I prefer to cook these on the stove (without a double boiler) for more control. The trick to getting the red hots to stick is to work with another person to place them IMMEDIATELY. At my house, Holly Cookies are a "team event". While one person spoons out the cookies (and tries not to burn fingers :-) ) the other person follows right behind with the red hots -- good kid job!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2003
Big hit this year! My dad & step-mom did not want me to make it -- even suggested buying Stove-Top "just in case". They LOVED it. Even my sister who does not like stuffing asked for the recipe. Only one serving for leftovers and they fought over that :-)

French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2003
The whole family liked this. I used a can of beef broth instead of bullion since several reviewers commented on it being salty. Seemed to work :-). There were only enough leftovers for one sandwich -- and they fought over that the next day at lunch !

Chicken Gruyere with Sauteed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2003
Yum!!!!!!!!!!! Even my picky boys liked it! I was cooking with my newborn in a sling, so I unintentionally didn't quite follow it, but it still turned out great. Next time will add extra mushrooms & onions and will see if still good with a cheaper "swiss" type cheese.
