Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2012
I made this ham for a very skeptical family, cooking my first real Christmas dinner. It was fantastic! Even mom admitted it was the most tender, moist ham she'd ever had! Thanks so much for a great recipe, and for saving my hide on Xmas! :)

Easy Cheese Ball II

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2012
Made for Christmas snack and the family raved!! Note that this cheese ball is HUGE - I had 9 people over and had leftovers for days, even after everyone had seconds and thirds!

Applesauce Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
I needed to use up a ton of applesauce and made this bread not expecting much, but boy was I wrong! I reduced oil by half and added nutmeg and additional cinnamon, the bread was moist and flavorful. Not very sweet, so it wasn't liked as much by the kids, but what do they know! ;) thank you!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
Used these biscuits with one one substitution, butter for shortening, with Sweetened Whipped Cream (this site) to make homemade strawberry shortcake. So fast, so good! Thanks J.P., you're the new big daddy of biscuits in this house!

Sweetened Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
Oh my, I will never EVER buy packaged whipped cream again, this is so fantastic! I doubled the cream and only added 1/3 additional sugar for personal preference, whipped and whipped and whipped some more, and used it for homemade strawberry shortcake with J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits (this site) and it was amazing. Thanks for opening my eyes to real cream, and a new family favorite!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
What a wonderful, simple dish! So satisfying and hearty! I substituted half and half for the heavy cream as suggested by others. To those having sauce issues, note that with the substitution of half/half, cornstarch and water thickening will be necessary. Remember, a little goes a long way! Thanks for a new family staple!

Cranberry Streusel Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Beautiful pie! I was chasing cranberries all over my kitchen, though. If chopping, use a blender or food processor. They don't make knives big enough for whole cranberries, those little roll everywhere! :)

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Flavorful crust - but I had issues. I only needed bottom crust (for cranberry pie - this site), and was very happy later. I had to piece my crust together in the pan like a puzzle. Dough was super dry - tried adding water, still broke apart. Would not roll out correctly no matter what I did. However, no one sees the bottom of the pie :) and the flavor and consistency of finished crust is fantastic. Even with the headache, will try again!

Salmon with Lemon and Dill

Omitted dill, used lemon, fresh garlic, left rest of recipes as-is. Only 4 stars because wrapping in foil is absolutely necessary for moist dish! Thank you!

5 stars, great recipe! Note: sweet glaze is a nice touch, but absolutely not necessary. Added walnuts instead of pecans - YUM!! Thank you!

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I love these muffins because the top is super sweet, but not the muffin itself. I used 1.5 cups of apple shredded, 1 cup chopped, added 1/2 tsp. each cinnamon and nutemeg to batter, and used 1/2 C brown sugar and 1/2 C white. Add sugar to apple mixture and let it set while you prepare topping - the juiced apples make for even more moist muffins! Note: additions make 16 muffins total. Yay for great recipes!

Gary's Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
Great recipe! I cut butter by 1/2 cup, did not add crabmeat (used stuffing from Turkey Butt - made with sausage) - fantastic! Not that they need the calories or fat, but I'm going to try a little cheese on top next time.

Great recipe, new family favorite! I sauteed chopped onion, garlic, and shredded carrot together beore adding broth (used 1 can reduced sodium and one can regular), used fresh spinach, practically eliminated the garlic powder, and topped with a few sprinkles of grated parmesan. Fantastic!! Thank you!

Absolutely outstanding! I added: 1 more potato, 4 stalks celery sliced thin, cumin, garlic sea salt, black pepper and cilantro to meatballs, used 2 XL beef bouillon cubes, and garnished with cilantro and a squeeze of lime. 5 stars all the way!
