I love to bake and I also like to cook. I'm a total baker at heart! I regularly bake sweets for my family, friends, and myself on a weekly basis and love to try new recipes and collect baking cookbooks. My favorite chefs are: Gordon Ramsay, Julia Child, Mario Batali, Masaharu Morimoto, Graham Elliott, and Grant Achatz.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook stir frys. But, I love to bake cookies, bar cookies, quick sweet breads, and confections.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking traditions is baking cookies at Christmas. I started a new tradition this year(2012) where I bake 12 cookies 12 days before Christmas. :)

Recently, making sugar cookies that were as hard as rocks! :( Fortunately, they went into a Hello Dolly bar recipe and were awesome! :)

Easy Sugar Cookies
VERY easy to make! My 4 year old daughter and I made them and she was able to help roll the dough into balls and put them on the cookie sheet. We found though that smashing them almost flat worked out better as far as baking for 10 minutes. We followed the directions and let it sit on the cookie sheet for another 2 minutes before putting them on the cooling rack. They are crispy, yet have a bit of chewiness in the middle. Although there is NO almond extract in these cookies, they remind me of the consistency of those chinese almond cookies. I bet if you subbed or added almond extract, it'd be exactly like the almond cookies you get from chinese restaurants. I'd definitely make these again. Gonna try rolling this dough and making cut-out cookies next!

Sarah's Applesauce
I had a bunch of golden delicious apples that I had to use up in the fridge before they went bad. I doubled up the recipe and used 8 apples. I didn't adjust the recipe at all and it was awesome! Instead of a fork or potato masher, I used my handy electric stick blender....worked so quickly! :) I didn't even wait for it to cool down. I gave some to my 4 year old daughter and she is wanting seconds. Thanks, Sarah! :)

Jam Thumbprints
Easy, quick and good recipe for jam thumbprint cookies. I tried what people mentioned, no egg wash, no nuts, put jelly in for the full baking time...they turned out good, cept I think I may need to bake them longer than 16 minutes, also, the jam tended to ooze off the cookies and onto the baking sheet. I think I'll make smaller thumbprints and put less jam in next time. I used strawberry jam and blackberry jam. The blackberry jam didn't ooze like the strawberry jam did. But, this recipe is definitely a do-over!
