Okay, so I've now completed my internship with Allrecipes.com and I had planned on blogging now only about my general experiences (where have been wonderful) and my main topic of food culture in Argentina. There is so much to say on both topics. This has been the best internship that I could… MORE

One of the things that I love about food culture in Argentina is tea time. I have a major sweet tooth and I love a meal that's mostly devoted to sweets. Sure, every once in a while people have grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with their tea or coffee, but most tea time meals are pastries or… MORE

I realized on Saturday that in all the weeks that my friend had been in Buenos Aires (visiting from the US), we had never gone to a traditional parilla. This is actually much worse than it sounds. Usually the first thing that one does with a tourist in Argentina is take them to a traditional… MORE

I've always been curious about how street food differs across cultures. In Argentina, the food culture revolves mainly around long, sit-down meals with multiple courses and and a grill. You rarely see someone finishing a meal (or even a muffin) as they walk down a street and before Starbucks… MORE

For all my appreciation for Argentine cuisine, one of my favorite food areas is still Buenos Aires's version of Chinatown. It doesn't smell great, but I love it there. It always has the ingredients that I can't find anywhere else and it's more exciting that your average vegetable stand. I've… MORE

We made it to El Galpón! It was earlier than I was at all comfortable with, cold, and raining, but we got there and I'm really glad we did. El Galpón was tiny, but great! Everything in there was organic and I found fresh, organic milk for the first time in Buenos Aires. For a country with so… MORE

Okay so I've been planning my blog post on organic food in Buenos Aires for the past week, collecting photos and information but putting off actually writing it. Today I realized that there's still one more place that I have to visit before giving a true account of the organic/green movement… MORE

So today I found baby carrots for the first time in Argentina. For a little background info, I am very attached to baby carrots. They were my favorite snack as a kid and are one of my staple foods at college in NY. So, when I moved to Argentina in 2006 I was very disappointed to find that no… MORE

Okay so this is the perfect day to post my first blog entry! I'm hosting a tea for my mother's cousins and once the table is set I'll start taking pictures because it will be gorgeous. Tea set out on fine china with the option of lemonade for kids and the table decked out with sweets. Someone… MORE

About Me
I'm an Argentine-American college student and I spend almost all of my free time in the kitchen! I bake more than anything else but I'm trying to get more into cooking main dishes and getting over my distaste for raw meat.
My favorite things to cook
chocolate crinkle cookies, mango chutney, Indian carrot coconut milk soup, muffins, anything that involves challenging substitutions (i.e., gluten free, vegan, etc)
My favorite family cooking traditions
sun dried tomato pesto, spinach balls, mango marinated salmon, tortilla con mil verduras, black magic cake
My cooking triumphs
Gluten free vegan muffins that everyone thought were normal (i.e. made with butter, eggs, and wheat flour).
My cooking tragedies
"healthy" muffins that ended up bubbling over in the oven (yes, bubbling) I still don't know what happened but I suspect something baking soda
