About this Cook
I'm a 76 year old retired dentist now living in Singapore. Have always liked cooking since I was a child. My mother was an excellent cook as were both of my grandmothers so I learned much from all three My paternal grandmother immigrated ton the U.S from Austria Hungary around 1900. She was an ethnic German living in Semeln, Serbia wshich was part of the Austro/Hungarian Empire (Habsburg)at the time, so she made German, Hungarian and Serbian dishes. She came from a family of bakers and made superb baked goods. My mother's family was from Arkansas and made excellent authentic Southern dishes.
My favorite things to cook
1-Sarma; Serbian cabbage rolls with saurkraut. 2-Haungarian Chicken Paprikash 3- Krautfleckel; thick home made noodles fried in lard with cabbage and leftover roast pork, an Austrian dish 4.Juvich;pork chops and rice with celery, garlic, onions and green peppers. Serbian 5-Chicken and Dumplings Arkansas style. 6- Chili, Texas style, no beans 7- Tamale Pie; ground beef, onions, tomatoes, garlic, green and red peppers, whole kernel corn, black olives with a chili tomato sauce baked in a polenta lined casserole with grated cheddar cheese and a polenta top. 8-Spaghetti and meat balls 9- Mexican Food 10=French Food
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making smoked Hungarian Bratwurst of coarsely ground pork, paprika and garlic. My grandparents made this when I was a small child in Anaheim, CA. They had an orange grove and raised and butchered their own hogs, turkeys, chickens, ducks and geese.
My cooking triumphs
I won a couple of chili cook-offs in Singapore
My cooking tragedies
Been a few but I try to forget them....we learn from our errors

Gerry's Chicken Enchiladas
Very good. Finally an enchilada recipe with corn rather than flour tortillas. The only change I made was I didn't saute the onions, rather quickly blanched them where they have a little crunch.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs
Instead of sauteing the meat balls try rolling them in breadcrumbs and baking 'til nice and brown...gets rid of the grease Some diced eggplant and sliced mushrooms added to the saute is good to
