Busy working mom. I am all about the quick, the nutritious and tasty. My kid will eat anything, even the raw kale and apple salad I put in his lunch box. I am crazy against food additives; colourings and "artificial flavours" -- I think they should be made illegal!
My favorite things to cook
Kitchri -- an Indian lentil and rice stew, cooked with ghee and garam masala. It is the Indian version of comfort food -- eastern mac'n'cheese if you like -- and it always tastes great. One pot, good simple ingredients, and I have never met a kid (even our dear friends' finicky eater sweetheart) who doesn't snarf it up.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Too much food on the table and lots of people over. I love the community of eating with friends. We should all cook together and for each other!
I also think eating with your hands and eating outdoors is fabulously satisfying.
My cooking triumphs
Our Christmas Party cake this year; a Peace symbol with the words "on Earth" in gingerbread along the side.
My cooking tragedies
Maybe 1000 characters aren't enough. The no-cook apricot balls are still lore...the gingerbread house that fell in on itself ("Post Apocalyptic Gingerbread House", complete with screaming horrified gingerbread men), the apple-turn-overs when I confused the salt and sugar, the ill-thought-out lentil and eggs in a wok in my uni dorm room...it goes on and on and on....
