I'm a very picky eater, so cooking is not always a pleasure for me. I always modify recipes to fit my tastes (no onions, no strong spices, very light garlic) which is not in step with the rest of the world. On the other hand, cooking is usually the ONLY way I make food exactly as I like it. Unfortunately, my family members sometimes feel deprived.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Going on many years now, for Christmas morning, DH prepares Oven Baked Caramel French Toast: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/oven-baked-caramel-french-toast/detail.aspx
It is decadent, so we only eat it on very special occasions. Our now grown-up twin daughters request it each year, and he enjoys making it for us as a nostalgic and delicious Christmas gift. He serves it with oven baked bacon or sausage, orange juice and beverage of choice. I get a little tear in my eye when I think of this tradition.
