About this Cook
I am a third year college student who has recently discovered a passion and love for cooking. My grandfather was a successful chef in Stockholm, Sweden and he then taught his daughter in law (my mother) a lot about cooking and fine food. It seems it has no passed down to me! I find myself cooking for my family more often than not when I am home for breaks and summer. They have even started to comment that I am getting better than my mom! I like to cook gourmet food, but I also just love to cook healthy, delicious meals with a gourmet flare. I hope to continue on in the food industry after I graduate, whether that be culinary school or other endeavors! I believe that good food comes from fresh ingredients and a cook that has a genuine knack for cooking. I also use organic and local food whenever possible and believe farm to table food is the way to go.
My favorite things to cook
Anything involving avocados, mangoes, vegetables of any sort, asian flavors and spices, basil, goat cheese, fennel, and many other things! Lately I have been perfecting my slaws and vinaigrettes. I also love to cook Mexican inspired food and Asian! My favorite easy thing to make is a beautiful salad with a dressing made from scratch based on whatever is inspiring me at the time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade pizzas, peppercorn steak, and crab cakes. All recipes in the family from either my Mom, Grandfather, or Dad.
My cooking triumphs
I have yet to make something that someone didn't like (or at least admitted). My biggest triumph is probably cooking for large groups of people, recently I made fish tacos for a group of 15!
My cooking tragedies
None... yet.

Azalina's Mint Curry
This recipe is wonderful but the proportions for the shopping list are completely off. I don't know why the shopping list says 6 limes when the recipe calls for 1 or 230 cardamom pods when the recipe only calls for 2 tabelspoons.... now I have to figure out what to do with all of these leftover cardamom pods and limes...
