Sourdough Starter II

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
This was certainly easy to do. The first batch of starter made a very good loaf of bread. However, the amount of sugar (1/4 cup) called for to "feed" the starter seemed to be too much. The second loaf of bread turned out to be way too sweet. I will try reducing the amount of sugar in the next "feeding". I used the starter in both hand mixed and kneeded bread as well as a bread machine. In both cases the starter worked fine.

Creamed Cabbage

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2006
Mixed review on this one. My husband loved it, I thought it was rather bland. I added a layer of shredded Swiss cheese in addition to the Parmesan/Romano cheese between layers of cabbage and sprinkled Swiss cheese over the top. Then I placed the casserole under the broiler for the last five minutes to brown the cheese. I must admit, the next day leftovers seemed tastier. It was something different to make with cabbage and I would definitely make it again.

Cream Corn Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2004
Not so good. Yes, it's simple to make and yes, the pork was definitely tender. Aside from that, I thought this was a bland meal. I didn't like the combination of creamed corn and pork. I will NOT be making this recipe again.

Apple Butter Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
Positively Delicious! I used center cut pork chops and reduced the baking time to about 1 1/2 hours. The key is the make sure the liquid doesn't evaporate. In spite of all the sugar, the apple butter sauce is not too sweet, it's just right and adds a pefectly balanced spicy and fruity complement to the pork. My husband (who does NOT like fruit with his meat) actually loved this dish. Can't wait to make it again!

Get a Husband Brunswick Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2003
After reading all the rave reviews about this recipe, I decided that I had to try it. My husband took one bite and said, "This is the best thing I've ever eaten in my life"! (Doesn't say much for the rest of my cooking.)
