About this Cook
I'm just getting a start in the world on my own. I live with my boyfriend in our first apartment in a small downtown area. I work at an academic library and am going to school to become a librarian. I'm trying to live a healthy lifestyle and they say it is 70% in the kitchen and 30% exercise, which works for me because I like to eat more than exercise. Some days cooking can be a workout in itself! I love trying new things and get bored cooking the same few things over and over again. I could happily go a month without eating the same thing twice. I'm here to learn and share with you!
My favorite things to cook
I love trying new things so it is hard to pinpoint one thing. I love my slow cooker though I only have a tiny one. I love to bake, mostly sweets, but decorating isn't quite my forte.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Spaghetti is one of those all time favorites because it was the first thing I ever cooked on my own (though it was pretty bad--I was 10 in my defense!) I learned to cook by watching my mom so I learned a few tips there but have developed my own style over the years.
My cooking triumphs
Cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner in my dorm room all by myself! That was pretty exciting for me. Though touching the turkey and pulling out the insides really did gross me out.
My cooking tragedies
Garlic bread. I'd only watched people make and had never tried to before. The first time I tried I put so much garlic we ended up throwing it all away. no one got past the forst bite!

Basil Strawberry Mango Smoothie
This was amazing! I had an overripe mango I had to use so I made this smoothie. It is so refreshing! This is going to be a staple for me this summer. It was perfect as is, though I used less sugar. You could easily add other fruit to this. I think any tropical fruit would go nicely like banas, oranges, or pienapple.

Doc's Best Beef Jerky
Made this for members of a pirate crew I am involved with and they raved! I made 2 lbs of it and it was gone before the end of the first day! I should have made more. Everyone has been asking me to make it again - I get requests constantly. I was crunched on time so it only marinated the morning I made it for about 6 hours but it still came out phenomenal! This will be a staple festival recipe and just for the heck of it recipe also. Thanks so much!

Garlic and Herb Pull Apart Bread
This was delicious! The flavor was great! It is an easy way to dress up biscuits but make a loaf of bread that smells and tastes great! Thanks for this recipe!
