Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
I found this recipe really easy to make and tasty, my whole family enjoyed it. I stuck to the exact recipe and I agree with some of the other reviews that it is salty. Next time I make it I am going to half the amount of soy sauce and I'm sure the taste will be the same.

Baked Corn

So easy! I made these as a side for Christmas lunch and everyone enjoyed it. Lovely texture. I found it cooked a bit quicker in the oven than the recipe states, so keep an eye on it.

Sesame Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
I made this as a side for Christmas lunch and it was perfect. It is really simple, but the beans turned out perfectly. I have a bad habit of slightly overcooking greens by losing track of time at the end of preparing everything all together. However I did these beans in a large electric skillet and they were ready 10 mins before everything else, but I put in the 'keep warm' mode and they were perfect for serving. I will definitely make these again.

Grandma's Gingerbread Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
What a great idea! 2 of my favorites - gingerbread and pancakes. I loved these pancakes, but I have given 4 stars as I wish they were fluffier. Mine also turned out darker than the photos others have posted. It may have something to do with the type of molasses I used. Not sure.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
These are great muffins - really easy to make and the crumb topping looks impressive. They are sweet, which I love, but others might want to mix up the recipe a bit to take some sweetness out. I'll definitely be making these again.

Sweet Potato Oranges

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
I made these for Christmas lunch and they were fantastic. Everyone loved them and they were so impressive to serve. Unlike other reviews, I didn't find it hard to scoop out the oranges at all, and I only cut down about half an inch. I used a dessert spoon with quite square edges which might have been what made it easier. I have a big sweet tooth so I made the recipe as is (and it was delicious) but next time I will do as some others suggest and cut the sugar in half and decrease the butter as I don't think either of those things would affect the taste much at all. I kept the oranges standing upright by fitting them in tightly next to each other in the casserole dish and didn't have any problems with the water in the dish this way. Next time I might trim a little flat bit on the bottom to make it easier for guests to keep still on their plates though. I made the recipe the day beforehand (minus the topping) and then made the topping and baked on the day, which worked really well. I also think I might play around the topping next time as well. The pecans are great and I think some cinnamon would compliment them well. A really impressive recipe.

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
I roasted my firrst ever turkey using this recipe and it worked a treat. A perfect, moist bird that was a hit with the whole family. I have to admit, I forgot to baste in the first hour and a half of cooking, but as there was plenty of stock in the roasting pan, it didn't seem to matter. Just lovely.

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
This was my first attempt at making a traditional stuffing (though I do make couscous and herb stuffing when I roast a chicken) and I made it for Christmas lunch. It was superb! It was so easy that I don't want to keep this recipe for special occasions, I will make this often to have with roast chicken or turkey. The recipe as is was fantastic, but I am also looking forward to experimenting with some of the other additions that reviewers have mentioned (walnuts...mmm...)

Fluffy Canadian Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2010
We have these pancakes regularly in our household, it is the best pancake recipe I have used. I love that it is so basic and easy and yet they turn out great every time - I think that beating the egg whites makes all the difference. Unlike the other reviews, we have never found them to be too eggy (and I do use 3 eggs).

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2003
Great recipe! I doubled this as my husband and I like to have lots of soup on hand for lunches, etc, and it turned out really well. The only thing I did differently was add a couple cloves of garlic in the fry pan with the leek.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2003
I added a LOT more liquid to this recipe as it didn't make as much soup as we like, so I also upped some of the ingrediants. Like everyone else said, it is much better the day after. Next time I will be adding more meat and also more zucchini.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2003
I have just come in and edited my original rating of this recipe. I have been making this soup in winter for 7 years now and it is a family favorite. Slow cooking the beef makes it so tender. I would say this soup is actually closer to a stew, so I usually increase the amount of beef stock to make it soupier. It is definitely better on the 2nd day when all the flavors have developed more, and I also find it freezes well. My kids (aged 5 and 1) also love this soup. Delicious with crusty bread.

Kentucky Butter Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2003
Fantastic! After reading other reviews I was concerned that I may have problems getting the cake out of the pan, but I cooled it for about an hour before trying and it popped out perfectly. I used the recipe quantity of butter sauce, which I found was enough. 1 hour cooking time was also perfect and cake was not dry. I cooked this for my husband and some friends to have after dinner and everyone loved it. I probably won't make it too often though due to the high fat content, but still great for an occasional indulgence.
