I am a 43 yr. old mother of a 17 yr. old "picky" eater who is always searching for healthy food my son will actually eat. I have been in the same committed relationship for 15 yrs. with a man who is not so much a picky eater, but has very definite ideas about what texture his food should be - nothing mushy, too "saucey" or complicated (think meat & potatoes, but he wants it to be healthy!).
My favorite family cooking traditions
COMFORT FOOD!!! Although my mother insisted on a "balanced" meal - meat, starch & veggies - comfort food was the order of the day! Casseroles - American Chop Suey, Shepherds Pie - Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken & Dumplings, Beef Stew. I've worked hard to make most of these a little more healthy (although there will never be anything healthy about my Mac & Cheese.)
My cooking triumphs
My biggest cooking triumph (don't laugh) is when my mother calls me for a recipe of something she tried while visiting my home!
My cooking tragedies
Top 3 things I will never live down:
1. Chicken Pot Pies with no gravy - so dry!
2. Spaghetti sauce - I added sugar to cut the acid, but it was WAY too much sugar! It was the first time I had ever cooked for my mother-in-law to be.
3. Crab quiche - it was so bland, and I couldn't figure out why! It would have helped if I had added the spices I pre-mixed together, set to the side and then, forgot about!
