Red Curried Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2004
This was good but not nearly spicy enough. It was really pretty bland as an Indian dish. I might make it again and tweak the recipe though.

Pasta with Spinach Pesto Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2004
Um, I hate to be the one with the dissenting opinion, but my husband and I hated this dish! I was so looking forward to a good vegetarian pasta dish, but this just wasn't what I was expecting. It came out looking like green goo, which just didn't look very unappetizing. It was also bland as could be. No amount of salt and spices could fix it. I ended up washing off the somewhat expensive mushrooms for use in another meal and threw out the pasta. Sorry, but I will not be making this again.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
This came out ok and was nothing fantastic. Of course, it may have been my fault since I couldn't find peanut oil and ginger garlic paste, I ran out of shallots, and I used chicken breast meat. This dish needed salt and was not really spicy. I don't think I will make this again.

Restaurant-Style Chicken Scampi

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
sorry, but I really hated this dish. I did everything as specified, but it was completely tasteless. The chicken, pasta, and vegetables were all bland because this dish depends completely on the sauce to give any flavor. It doesn't taste anything like the dish at the Olive Garden. I am very disappointed and will not be making this again.

Mandarin Almond Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
I don't know what happened, but this did not turn out for me. The dressing just tasted oily. I did really like the sugared almonds though. Those were fabulous. I probably won't this again. Sorry.

This batter needed salt. After making that one change, it tasted great. I would definitely make this again. Thanks!

Chicken Riggies II

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
This was really good, though it needed a lot more salt. I also added red pepper flakes to give the flavors a boost. I would definitely make this again. Thanks!

SMUCKER'S® Stuffed French Toast

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
I made a lot of changes to this recipe based on what I had in my kitchen, but I think I still stuck to its original intentions, and it turned out wonderful. I used macadamia nuts instead of walnuts or pecans, two slices of white bread for each 2 inch slice of French bread, whipping cream, and Smucker's strawberry jam instead of apricot preserves and orange juice. I had no trouble keeping the slices of bread together because the cream cheese mixture was sticky. This turned out really delicious and really filling, and it took about 30 minutes to make. I will definitely make this again. Thanks!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
This was my first attempt at a slow cooker meal, and it turned out absolutely heavenly! I used 1 can of soup, 1/2 soup can of water, and 3 pounds of beef. I cut up the meat into 1-2 inch cubes and cooked it on Low for 8 hours. When I came back, I couldn't believe how incredible it tasted and how easy it was to make! I will definitely make this again and add some veggies next time! Thanks!

Chicken Tortilla Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
For this dish, the only changes I made was using 1 tsp dried cumin instead of oregano (as another reviewer suggested) and using 2 cans of chicken broth instead of 1 can of condensed broth and 1 1/4 cups water. This turned out ok after adding quite a bit of salt. However, I think I should've stuck to the original recipe, because the cumin and chili powder just overpowered the entire dish. I will give this recipe another try and used the oregano instead.

Pasta Fagioli

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
After reading all the rave reviews, I was really looking forward to this dish. I made everything as specified except I omitted the celery and beans and did not peel the tomatoes. This turned out very one-dimensional, with the only flavor discernable being the heat from the red pepper flakes. I tried to fix it up but failed. Sorry, but I will not be making this again.

Barlow's Blackened Catfish

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
Wow! This dish was incredible! I made it exactly as stated with the exception of drizzling on the salad dressing instead of using a whole cup. This was extremely spicy and extremely tasty. I had to scrape the mixture off the fish in order to eat it, but it was so good. I will definitely make this again with half the amount of pepper and salt as others have suggested. Thanks!

Shrimp and Crab Bisque

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
For this dish, I used one fish bouillon cube and 2 cups of half-and-half. I hate when dishes don't have enough salt, so believe me when I say that this came out too salty even with the increased half-and-half. However, the dish still tasted really good, so I will definitely make this again and just omit the 1/2 tsp salt. Thanks!

Ken's Spicy Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
I made this recipe almost exactly as stated, with the only exception of using dried basil instead of fresh. It came out extremely bland and boring. It had heat, but it still tasted bland. I tried to make it more interesting by adding salt, pepper, and other spices, but to no avail. This is nothing like what I've had in Thai restaurants. Sorry, but I will not be making this dish again.

Spinach Mushroom Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
I had to improvise a bit with this recipe since I couldn't find the herb and lemon soup mix. So instead of the mix, I made up my own concoction using 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp lemon pepper, 1 tsp oregano, 1 tsp parsley, and 1/2 tsp marjoram. It came out quite well. The only oddity about this recipe was that I didn't seem to have enough dough to cover the sides and bottom of the pan. However, it all turned out anyway and tasted just fine. Next time I will try the herb and lemon *pasta* mix to see if that's better.

Turkey Empanadas Grande

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
At first, we made this recipe as stated with the exception that we left out cilantro (we don't like cilantro). The meat turned out dry and tasteless, and we were very disappointed. However, we made some simple changes that miraculously turned it into a 5! All we did was add 1 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 to 2/3 cup chicken broth to the cooking meat mixture, and that gave it the flavor, texture, and moisture that the mixture needed for the ingredients to truly shine. I would also suggest using deep dish pie crusts because there was a lot of meat. However, it all turned out great, and we will definitely make this dish again!
