Grandma's Famous Salmon Cakes

First time using canned salmon - after I got past the cleaning and deboning of the fish, it was smooth sailing! I was amazed that we couldn't even notice the smaller bones! I only used one egg, added a tbsp of may and the Old Bay, per other reviewers, and rolled my patties in bread crumbs and baked. This receipe was a hit! Would also be easy to make the night before and just bake when ready. Will try other salmon cake recipes on this site but give this one 5 stars!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Got great reviews, it smelled heavenly while roasting and cut up beautifully. I basted 3-4 times with the liquid/butter - I didn't have ACTUAL butter so used the margarine/spread substitute which I'm sure wasn't as tasty. Overall a great recipe, I would definitely make again!

Orange Roughy with Sherry and Herb Sauce

Made this recipe for the first time - used Patagonian tooth fish because that's what hubby came home with from the store - added some garlic and capers to the sauce and some sliced mushrooms on the fish per other reviewers. Easy to make, smelled wonderful while baking and served it over whole wheat noodles with steamed broccoli. Three of us loved it - very moist and fluffy fish, great flavor. Son didn't like - he's not much of a foodie or a fish lover. Next time I would double the sauce recipe but do everything else the same! Also curious to try over chicken and other fish!

Sweet Pumpkin Seeds

This was our first attempt with pumpkin seeds - just found it to be "meh". The cinnamon stuck to the seeds but the sugar - not so much. After all the rave reviews, I expected better. Will try again with a different recipe.

Chef John's Quiche Lorraine

This was my first attempt at Quiche Lorraine - after living in this region for a year back in my school days - did not disappoint! Was light and fluffy and full of flavor and looked beautiful! Would not change a thing - followed the recipe to the T! Definitely adding this to the rotation - brought back great memories of my year abroad!

Bob's Stuffed Banana Peppers

Halved the recipe and still had meat left over after stuffing 12-14 banana peppers! Used fresh instead of canned tomatoes and didn't have any Worcestershire sauce, also substituted swiss chard for the celery and added some of the greens. Delicious, smelled so good cooking and makes for a nice presentation too!

Love the variety in this recipe and the colors are beautiful too! Made a batch of this - was able to freeze in ice cube trays and have some left over for tonight's grilled pizza! Delicious!

Creamy Avocado Pesto - Delish!

I made this without the tomatoes and didn't need to add any olive oil - so healthy and fresh and delicious! Hubby reheated some the day after and it was still delicious!

Made a half batch - loved the flavor of the toasted pine nuts and the addition of the parsley! Scooped in to cubes to freeze for later! I also added a tablespoon or two of lemon juice. Excellent!

Grilled Salmon II

We really enjoyed this - the green onion showed up nicely on the salmon, it had a nice flavor that wasn't overpowering. Marinated for about an hour on each side. Would definitely do again and recommend!

Balsamic Brussels Sprouts

I've wanted to try these for a long time and today was the day! They were fantastic! I, too - roasted them at 375 for about 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes or so. I made 2 pounds of brussel sprouts and can't wait to have more of them tonight!

Cream of Mushroom Soup I

This was my first attempt at mushroom soup and it was very good. I doubled the sherry and the half & half (I had a lot of mushrooms) and next time I think I would only puree half to 3/4 of the mushrooms, leaving some in larger pieces for appearance. Overall very good and I would make again!

Turkey Day 2013 - was great. I didn't marinate in the salt because it was already done from the store. Otherwise, followed receipt exactly and produced a tender, tasty bird!
