Unbelievable Fish Batter

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2014
We used 1/4 teaspoon baking powder as other's suggested. It was good. It broke apart easily after deep frying several (not sure why but it did). My husband added some pepper and some other seasonings for spice also. It was good. Not great and certainly not the best we've had, but good.

No Beans About It - Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2013
I used diced tomato's since I don't like them and they're easier to pick out and I used ghost pepper instead of regular pepper sauce. I hate vinegar and didn't have any so used worcestire (Spelling?) as someone else suggested. As a chili, is what I rated. But as a meat sauce or put in tortilla's or something then it's great. The taste is great. I'll make it again, but not as a chili. I'll toss some pasta in it or put it in a tortilla. I also added some sharp cheddar cheese afterwards (as I always do with chili) and it tasted great.

Fajita Seasoning

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2013
This was okay. Not the best I've had, but definitely not the worst. The only thing I changed was the garlic. I had no powder or salt so I used minced garlic instead. I don't know if I didn't care for it because of the lack of 'spice' to it because I like spicy. My family liked it. But they weren't raving. I ended up only having one small fajita versus two which never happens. It's good when I don't have my normal seasoning but next time I'll adjust the spices so I can have a bigger bite to it.

Golden Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2013
I used chicken broth instead (2 cans) and I added some ground beef (I didn't have ham, but next time will use that). I also added cheese into it, then a little when it was done for topping (I love cheese and so do my kids). I wasn't sure at first because it didn't look like it was thickening up, and it took about an hour and half for it to be ready. Oh, and I did add some carrots because I love carrots :) Anyway, it was great. I loved it and it will be a perfect dish this winter when it gets cold.

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2013
I only changed a few things for lack of ingredients 1. Diced tomatoes instead 2. Black beans instead 3. Basil instead of Oregano It gets four stars because the flavor was great but I'll subtract a star because it was quite soupy. I simmered it for hours and it was still soupy. Too soupy so next time I'll add a bit less water. It was really good though and the soupy part could just be a preference. Maybe chili is supposed to be soupy? I'm still a beginner cook and chili has never been something I enjoyed before (because of the beans which I hate)

Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2013
I did change it up a bit for starters: 1. I used Reames (Spelling? I threw the package out) homemade noodles . because they are so much better than egg noodles and I added those later. 2. I also used a frozen cut up chicken from a whole chicken I'd cooked previously (Just defrosted and added) because they'd been on sale and I had wanted to do homemade chicken noodle soup 3. I had chicken broth instead of bouillon cube so I used that plus some water so I didn't have to run to the store. 4. I cooked it longer also because not all the chicken was completely defrosted, so it needed to simmer longer It turned out great and I will be making this again to freeze for winter so all I have to do is pull out and heat up, but it was great! Perfect.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2013
Made it exactly as the recipe calls for and it did have a touch of a bite to it so if you have one of those really picky kids that doesn't like any hint of spice, not for them, but it was great. Next time though I may add some more spicy flavors since I like the hotter the better, but definitely good and less grainy than the packaged stuff. It leaves room for adjustments based on taste buds too which is great.

Garlic Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
My husband used this tonight with some tweaks. He used garlic powder rather than salt since that's what we had and he left the paprika out (for the kids). He didn't use salt at first, then ended up adding some. I have to be honest since I didn't watch him make it, I'm not sure if he used the measurements listed or not. It did turn out okay. Not the best, but okay. I feel like it's missing something and that could be from the powder and minus the paprika so next time we'll use that and see. It wasn't great but it wasn't awful either.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2013
I did alter it a bit for lack of ingredients. I used ground turkey instead and used minced garlic because I keep forgetting to buy some more powder. I did have to change it in the middle of cooking because I ended up adding more ground turkey since it didn't look like enough for our whole family and I didn't measure out the ingredients again and instead just eyeballed it which led to too much mustard (oops!) and I hate mustard so I ended up added a bunch more of the sugar to help it and it tastes wonderful! If I had left it the same with just the one pound ground turkey, the flavor was still a bit mustard-y for me since I don't like mustard, but still a great sloppy joe flavor. Update: Eldest daughter didn't like it and she's normally not too picky. Youngest daughter scarfed it and the dog tried to steal it from the stove

Super Easy Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2013
This was really good, though I didn't follow the recipe exactly. I didn't have italian seasoning so I had to make some and messed up the recipe, but the flavor turned out great. I also used an egg as the coating before the bread crumb mixture and I fried it over the stove because I hate baking chicken. It takes too long (in our oven it takes longer than it should) and I'm impatient. The inside was moist, outside just the right amount of crispy. It looked burned on the outside, but it wasn't. I don't know if you can count the five stars for the recipe since I altered it based on what I had, and I used chicken wings, not breasts.

Stacey's Hamburger Seasoning

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2013
I'm not sure if the four stars count for this recipe since I did have to alter it for lack of ingredients. I used minced garlic instead, since I didn't have powder, and chili powder since I had no paprika. It was spicy so I can't give it to my daughter's who are sensitive and still no word on my husbands opinion, I'll get that later tonight, but I enjoyed the 'kick' it gave. It smelled like taco seasoning though it didn't necessarily taste like it. Update: I did this again and used the recipe as said minus the garlic (I forgot) tasted great! It wasn't as spicy this time though because I used more hamburger meat but it still had a tiny kick. I'll double the recipe next time when I double the meat again.

Easy Garlic Broiled Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2013
I did alter the recipe from others' suggestions. I used Olive oil instead since I didn't have butter and I used another's suggestion for 2tbl's soy and 1 balsalmic (sp?)vinegar but next time I will try the recipe exactly as it said. I also baked, then broiled since a lot of people suggested it. Anyway, it was really good and I hate soy and vinegar so that's saying something.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2013
This was my first time making stew and I loved it. I took other's suggestions and mixed the meat in a flour mixture as said, but used minced garlic since I didn't have the powder. I also didn't have cornstarch but used a bit of flour for that part, left the celery out since my kids ate it all and ran out. It was perfect. Next time though, I'll cut the potatoes into a bit smaller pieces so they'd cook just a tad bit faster, but it was great. The flavor was awesome. Not too much, not to little. Will definitely make again, especially in winter for a quick and great dinner.

The Best Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: May 8, 2013
I made as directed minues raises and nuts, since my kids don't like them and did one batch as the recipe calls for and they were a little cakey, but after that batch I added more oats to it and it was better. I also had to lower the time to about 7 minutes, but that could just be my oven as ovens and altitudes vary. They weren't the best I've every had, but my kids enjoyed them. I'm going to add chocolate chips in the last two batches (I'm still baking them) and see how they taste. But overall, good if you add more oats unless you do like them a little cakey. I don't with oatmeal cookies, but don't mind with other types so I think it's a preference. I also think that the cakey part comes from mixing the batter too much, so that could be a problem some were having. Next time I'll try it without mixing too much and see if it's better. Overall, they are good and worth a try.

Barbequed Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
I had nothing but problems with this recipe from the beginning. (not anyone's fault but my own). I screwed up the chili sauce though they should be more specific about what kind of chili sauce in this recipe. Then I messed up the spices, trying to double everything since I'd added too much of the chili sauce. Even doubling everything, it tasted way to vineragy (spelling?), and I'd left the vinegar amount half of the original calling for it. I baked in oven as specified, it came out so dry and I wasn't sure then it would turn out, but continued. Then today I put it on the grill and it was not pretty. As in, flames. Charcoal and flames greeted me when I went to check on it after five minutes. I will not be trying this recipe again. At least not unless my husband can be here to help me. I give it 1 star since I couldn't eat it as the star indicates "Couldn't eat it" as the rating.

Mama's Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2013
Very good. A good combination of soft and chewy an crispy. When I tasted the batter it was a bit salty, so next time I might add just a touch less salt, or mix it longer. I also used butter because I didn't have shortening. Overall, pretty good.

Great Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2013
To be fair, I used French bread and an Italian cheese blend because that's what I had, and I also didn't read it right and used minced garlic, instead of powder, but it was still awesome. and next time I will try it according to the recipe which I'm sure will be just as great.

Simple Strawberry Syrup

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2013
It was really sweet, so next time I'll use less sugar, but it's so good. I put it in a jar to use later, but had just a little bit left in the blender (I used a blender to mash it up since my masher broke) so I made a milkshake with it. It was awesome. Can't wait to put this on some toast, or pancakes/waffles. Will add it to ice cream for my daughter, but it was so easy and so good.

Blackened Tuna

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2013
I had to make the cajun seasoning from my seasonings at home (I used the allrecipes.com recipe), and it did create a lot of smoke, but it was wonderful. I was hesitant about trying it since I am very picky with my fish, but glad I tried. Can't wait to buy more Tuna to make again. Will probably try on the tilapia too. The spice is too much for my 5yr who doen't like spicy, but for the rest of us (including my 2yr daughter) it was great!

Cupcake Princess' Vanilla Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
I doubled the recipe using the calculater for my daughter birthday snack for preschool. It was a little sweet once I added the frosting for me, but not for children. I also added a touch more vanilla just because I do that with anything calling for vanilla because I love vanilla and because people said it tasted eggy so I was trying to avoid that. I saw some people had problems with this recipe and was afraid I would too, but it turned out great. Next time I'll stick to the vanilla amount because I can't take too sweet stuff anymore. Anyway, I loved it. I'll hear back from the teacher tomorrow how the class liked it, but they tasted great to me. I also got 30 cupcakes from it.
