My love of cooking stems from my desire to nurture, feed and educate. It is why I've always worked in food, especially fine dining. To elevate someone's experience, either by making them comfortable in a new situation, or taking a special occasion and making it even more so, is one of the main reasons I love feeding people.
My favorite things to cook
I like to make things that make people happy. To an extent, I believe that food can be as subjective as wine. It differs from person to person, and I like to figure it out and surprise them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom used to make these little pan biscuits called butter dips. We had them all the time. It wasn't until about a year ago that I saw the original recipe and discovered she had been omitting garlic powder this whole time! Now, they are MY tradition, and soooo deliciously garlicky.
My cooking triumphs
Meringue. Bread from scratch. My olive chicken. Key lime pie from real key limes with tons of zest. Chicken pot pie. Tom Kha Gai.
My cooking tragedies
Also meringue. My first attempt at caramel. Zucchini bread done in the Kitchen Aid rather than by hand.
