About this Cook
Have been cooking since I was 4...and no,that is not a type-o..I am now 46 (2012). Every child has their passion. Love to cook just about every kind of food you can imagine with two thoughts in mind: That my food is great tasting and that it leaves my diners with a feeling of the comforts you usually find at home.
My favorite things to cook
You name it!...Can cook Traditionl Southern Food, Ranch Style (Cowboy Vittles), Native American Foods, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Cajun (Acadian French, French (Provincial French), English, Scottish and Irish Foods. And I am not too bad on the Grill either.
My favorite family cooking traditions
All the women in my family cook-we all cooked together for each and every meal. If the worlds problems could not be solved in my Grandmother's or Mother's Kitchen - then they were impossible to solve-lol. It was my family's way for the women to remain close, stay up to speed on how the family was doing(including each of us), and always be there for one another....AND of course at the same time-make some delicious food.
My cooking triumphs
They have all been successful with the exception of 2 times....and like my Texas roots-"Go Big or Go Home"...I messed them up BIG!
My cooking tragedies
#1)The day I tried to make cheese grits too fast(brunch was in 30 mins.). I ended up with a lumpy tasteless mess. Haste makes Waste as my Grandma used to say! #2)The day that I went through all the time to cut up two chickens, batter and fry them..to smother them in a gravy. I had to go change and primp real quick before lunch guests arrived. I asked a girl buddy of mine that came over early to watch it for 5-10 minutes and I'd be right back. Can I tell you I wanted to cry when I heard the fire alarm go off in the kitchen? Her idea of watching the chicken was to "watch it hurry up and get done-so she could eat before the guests arrived" (she had turned the heat from low to high). Everything else was cooked...so I hightailed it to the nearest chicken joint and drove like a crazy person trying to out race my guests. I just apologized to my guests for the lack of "smothered" chicken and told them I had chosen to fry because I had forgotten to set my alarm to get up a little early. Whew!
