Chocolate Torte

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2004
Absolutely delicious! This went on top of the Dark Chocolate Cake I (the ONLY choc cake recipe I'll ever use!) for my birthday cake. Super creamy, like a slightly cheesy fudge. Delish! Even my parents, who hate frostings, ate the whole thing. The portion size was enough for me, I made a double recipe after reading reviews, but ended up using less than half of it to frost between layers and cover an 8" cake.

Hershey's ® Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2004
One word: Perfect! (that's after following suggestions and cutting sugar to 1/4 cup..) The texture and taste are fantastic. It's amazingly rich for something without eggs/yolks. Easy, too. Will make it manymany times over again! (also i find that whisking the gelatin as suggested by a reviewer is unnecessary.. you just have to sprinkle the gelatin over the water evenly, and mix it a little before adding the boiling water)

Angela's Easy Breaded Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2004
Really easy and hassle-free to make! However, it *did* taste like 30 mins' work.. Rather bland and not crispy on the outside as we'd expected. Will probably make this again only when really short on time..

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
I've used only the White cake version, everytime it turned out great. I only use it with cakes that require the cake mix as a base, never for a plain white cake. Simple, and easy storage in the fridge. I substitute the milk with its equivalent in dry milk powder if necessary (e.g. when recipe requires juice in place of water to be added to packaged cake mix)

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
More or less perfect! The butter taste was too strong, however; I use half the amt of butter. I also cut down the icing sugar to 1 c. and it's sweet enough. Very easy, quick and no-mess, and above all delicious :)

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
Wonderful, (deceptively) light pie.. I used a plain crust at first but wasn't satisfied with its flavour. Goes better a richer crust (i used one that called for two yolks). Still, a very flexible and easy recipe! The lemon filling was firm enough so I could make lemon meringue bars instead. I found the amount of filling just right, but many friends who tasted it suggested using half to two-thirds the amount of filling.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
Absolutely delicious cake! Goes very well w/ the suggested cream cheese frosting. However, do use just a little less than 1/2 c of oil, otherwise it's too moist and sticks to the bottom of the pan. My favourite recipe so far ^_^

Strawberry Dream Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
This cake is fantastic, have made it 5 times. It's one of the few never-fail recipes! Didnt' have store-bought cake mix, so I used the Cake Mix from Scratch recipe from this site. Strawberry taste isn't strong enough for my liking, rectified somewhat using extra 1 tbs strawberry extract. Tastes MUCH better when cold, like a light cheesecake. Potential candidate for the small cake business I'm setting up! Also, bake in the lower HALF, not the lower THIRD, of the oven, to prevent the top cracking.
