About this Cook
I am a mom of 4 kids, married since 1990. I was able to be a stay at home mom for about 5 years, then I went back to school and became a nurse. My kids are growing up, and even though I work full time and continue my education, I try to cook healthy, homemade, economical food. My husband (he's a nurse too!) and I both enjoy cooking and like to try new things, and we want to pass this on to our children. We all need to eat and cooking and eating together is a wonderful experience!
My favorite things to cook
I like to try new things, well balanced seasonings, rich flavors, variety!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies, banana bread, cooking with my kids and passing on knowledge about healthy, delicious food cooked from scratch. Grilling is becoming a favorite method now, especially since the kids are more willing to try spicy stuff!

Barb's Chocolate Cake
I have been making this cake for 2 years now, the only change I made was adding 1 tsp cinnamin to the batter and 1 tsp cinnamin to the frosting- I also make 1 1/2 the frosting recipe provided. We all love this recipe! No more box chocolate cakes for us! It's even better the next day when the flavors blend more.

Fennel and Mustard Seed Chicken
This resipe has been a favorite of my family's since we found it last year. Even my picky 9 year old loves it. We can hardly get him to eat meat. I like to serve this with wild rice and winter squash. Very tasty, nutritious, and flavorful combination.
