About this Cook
Political junkie, liberal to the bone, mother of two, artist, teacher, wannabee chef
My favorite things to cook
is something special, something that is unexpected. I love to try new things and am looking forward to my kids exploring more flavors. Let's face it, much of cooking for kids is not cooking, it's "heat and assemble".
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hands down it's our annual LobsterFest. My father turned the annual 4th of July hot dog/hamburger neighborhood gathering into a clam and lobster bake. Back in the day he would order seafood from the east coast and then drive to O'hare to pick up the containers of live lobsters that were flown in for our soiree! We still have a lobster fest every year and raise a glass to the heavens.
My cooking triumphs
anytime the kids clean their plates
My cooking tragedies
anytime I throw food away because of taste

Corn Dip II
This being corn season in the mid-west, and my access to "just picked this morning" corn, this is outstanding with fresh corn. I added 6 or seven ears of fresh corn that had been steamed the night before. I always run the back of my knife down each side of the cob after I cut off the kernels to get all the juicy bits and added that as well. I didn't have green onion, so I added a sprinkle of onion powder and added fresh chives instead. Had to rely on bottled lime juice, so I can imagine how great this is with fresh squeezed.

Asian Fire Meat
I enjoyed this meal, and very easy to prepare. I used the round steak, slicing it uber-thin (best to partially freeze before cutting, but you know that!). I didn't have leeks on hand, so just added more carrots and water chestnuts for the crunch. I also used sweet onions (again, pantry lacking red ones). Reminded me of a round steak recipe mom used to make! Keeper!
