I'm a married mom of 2 so I love quick and easy recipes. As a nurse I like to make recipes healthier. I also prefer to cook from scratch, using farm fresh eggs, meat & produce. I'm lucky to be able to select my grass-fed, lean, healthy cuts of beef. I despise processed foods and prefer to know exactly what is in my families food.
My favorite things to cook
Fresh bread, real from scratch and hand kneaded bread, no bread machines here! I bake artisan bread also, cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, etc. I like recipes I can tweak or play around with and I'm not really into the gourmet scene.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love planning my families meals with the ingredients I have around and the left over ingredients from one meal become main ingredients for my next meal. I believe in using what I have on hand before running to the store.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that I can make from scratch; I make amazing "Cheez-It" crackers, homemade graham crackers, homemade corn tortillas baked with seasoning or cinnamon and sugar and then broken into chips. I look at what my kids are eating for snacks and then challenge myself to make it at home, it's healthier and less expensive.
My cooking tragedies
My first artisan bread loaf called for a pan of hot water to be in the oven with the bread to make the crust really crispy. I filled a pyrex bowl of hot water and placed it in the oven. Five minutes later it sounded like gunshots were going off in my oven! The bowl exploded which I don't understand because I use it to bake casseroles in!
