I've been cooking since I could stand on a chair to safely reach the stovetop (Mom nearby). I still love to cook, collect recipes (I've made books!) and experiment by changing recipes to be lower in fat, sugar or just tastier!
My favorite things to cook
Cakes and cookies and desserts are fun, but creating casseroles and new veggie dishes are even more enjoyable.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking Christmas cookies and candies with my kids and now my grandkids. We would make fancy plates of them and deliver them to friends, family, neighbors and others. It helped make memories and also a lesson in giving to others. Also the Thanksgiving meal always complete when my kids and now my grandkids help. Several things HAVE to be included. They learn how to make the meal and also their favorites so the tradition can be passed along.
My cooking triumphs
The baked beans I've made for get togethers are always requested. Our Pastor and church family love my Chocolate/Cherry Dessert. The baked Ziti is fantastic. People ask for my recipes which I usually share because I want theirs too.
My cooking tragedies
A few years ago I was ill. Deciding that hard boiled eggs sounded good, I started some to boil. Needing then to sit, I quickly fell asleep. A friend who was staying with us at the time had a bird. Hearing a loud noise I quickly went to check on the bird, who was fine. Then to the kitchen to see my eggs exploded all over the place!
