About this Cook
I am married to my best friend and have 3 children. One in college, one on her way and one starting high school this year. I was a programmer/analyst until 2002, when I 'took the summer off' and never returned. I enrolled in a 2 year culinary program and now work as a chef at an upscale restaurant! Love to cook, always trying new things, having people over to test things out on them (!?!), grow my own herbs, general geek...
My favorite things to cook
Don't really have a fave. Go thru phases of things, i.e. certain meats, then pastas, breads, etc...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Breakfast on the weekends for the family. Thanksgiving, all home cooked. Weekend cook outs with family and friends...
My cooking triumphs
I have perfected bad to the bone meals while camping!! We usually feed everyone around us after a day on the river because when we return, our food is pretty much done and there's always alot of it! I take my roaster oven and do roast beef, turkey, etc... The leftovers are mixed with eggs the next morning with which breakfast burritos are made. Totally awesome!
My cooking tragedies
When I went thru my 'brisket phase', I had a number of people over one day and slow cooked this brisket all day long. I had a few drinks and allowed my husband to cut the meat. He butchered it. What grain??? He cut it in huge hunks and it turned out totally tough. I was horrified!!! He's not allowed to touch my meat anymore!!!

Lobster Newburg
This had a great flavor and was so easy to make! I sauteed the lobster tail in the butter for a few minutes before starting the recipe & also added an extra kick of cayenne. I thought it needed more lobster, but at $27 for 2 tails, I think I'll add lump crabmeat to accompany it instead!!

Pancakes I
I actually followed this recipe to the letter since I've never made pancakes from scratch. It was quick and easy and the kids loved them. I'm not a big breakfast eater, but did taste a bite and they were good! ****

Caramel Frosting I
This was YUMMY!!! I did what someone else recommended and doubled the butter and brown sugar. I made a chocolate cake and dripped this all over instead of trying to spread it, etc... It didn't get too hard, but was PERFECT!! Didn't look fantastic, but made it for the family and they scarfed it down!! I poured it on while it was still hot so it made the cake moist and some of it soaked in... SUPERB!!!
