Grandma's Kolachi

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
There is a misprint on this. The cooking time should be 15-20 minutes. Just watch it carefully so it doesn't get too brown. To make it even easier you can mix the dough in your bread machine.

Ice Cream Cone Treats

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
I make these a bit different in that I put a liner in my cupcake pan and fill it about 2/3 of the way full with batter. Then I take the icecream cone and place the open end on the batter. As the cupcake cooks it bakes up into the cone. I've never had a problem with soggy cones. Then I take the cone out of the tin, peel off the liner, and then frost after they cool. This leaves a nice round mound on the top of your cone perfect for icing!

Ricardo's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
We love this pizza crust! I take it out of the bread maker after 1 hour, roll it out, and then let it rise in a warm oven for about 20 minutes. Thanks for a great recipe!

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2005
HOLY MOLY is this good!! I have made it 3 times now. The last 2 batches I made with cashews instead of peanuts. It is delicious! I read on another site that you should not add your nuts until 260 degrees. I have done this all 3 times. I also add 1 tsp. of vanilla when I put in the butter and baking soda. I'm afraid this won't make it out of my house.

Sugar Cookie Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
I used this icing on "Easy Sugar Cookies" and it tastes great. I used butter for the icing instead of shortening and cut the recipe in half (we had just enough icing to generously ice 3 dozen cookies).

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
These cookies are super easy! I liked that they were made with butter and not Crisco (partially hydrogenated oil). My cookies turned out nice and chewy at 8 minutes. The dough does appear crumbly but if you mash it in your hand before rolling into balls it goes together well. We used "Sugar Cookie Frosting" from this site to ice them with.

Best Toffee Ever - Super Easy

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
The butter started to seperate from my toffee and I panicked. I continued cooking it up until 300 and then poured off some of the butter before putting in my pan. I really did not think it would turn out. However I still put on the chocolate and almonds and it tastes fantastic! My mistake was following another reviewers suggestion. I stirred the toffee constantly. You should stir frequently but NOT constantly. Stirring too much will cause seperation. If you have not been stirring constantly and it seperates try lowering the heat a bit and slowly stirring to get the sugar and butter to re-combine. You can also add 1/4 c. to a half a cup of water 1 Tablespoon at a time to help the butter re-mix.

Beer Roasted Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2005
You cannot go wrong with a beer butt chicken. I make this about once every 2 weeks and my family never grows tired of it. I usually use about 2-3 limes and stuff one of them (or an onion) in the top to keep the steam in the chicken. I also season the beer (you can use sprite or 7-up as well) with some lime juice, garlic salt, and chopped onions. I have never covered the chicken with foil or basted it and it always comes out nice and golden brown on the outside and juicy on the inside. I have also made gravy out of the drippings and it was amazingly good.

Baked Beans III

This was sooo good and sooo easy. What a great way to make regular canned baked beans taste as if you had been cooking them all day long.

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

This was such an easy and delicious dish!! I followed the advice of other reviewers and added 1/4 cup white sugar to the recipe and then sprinkled shredded cheddar cheese on top. I made it the night before and it turned out beautifully.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2005
I made this the night before (except for the topping) and it turned out great. I peeled my potatoes and then boiled them. I also used half brown sugar and half white sugar in the potatoes. Once it was almost done cooking I put in under the broiler for about a minute and it made the topping nice and crispy. Everyone really raved about this dish.

Baked Ziti II

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2005
This dish is like lasagna without all the work. I use the mafalda pasta (little mini lasagna noodles). My family likes a lot of sauce so I use 2 jars. I put one jar in the pasta mixture and then pour about 3/4 jar over the dish before baking. I save the remaining 1/4 jar for adding to the leftovers (this dish makes quite a bit). I am only giving 4 stars because I have modified it a bit.

Smothered Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2004
This was a really good recipe. Next time I will cut back on the onions and garlic a bit because the flavor was too strong for my 5 and 6 year old. For adults the recipe is fine as is. I also added a fairly good amount of seasoning salt. I think it gave it just the right flavor. The sauce turned out wonderfully. To save time I just threw the garlic and onions in the food processor. I also sauteed them in about a tablespoon of butter.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2004
This is such a great recipe!! I loved everything about it. The sauce is the best part. Even my 5 and 6 year old loved it. Please note that at the end when you cover and cook...I turned the heat to low/simmer and cooked for about 40 minutes to let the flavor soak into the meat. My mom cooked it faster/higher and almost all of her sauce evaporated.

Cranberry Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2004
I really enjoyed this meal. I used whole cranberry sauce and boneless pork chops. I think next time I would rather use a bone-in pork roast. Boneless pork cuts tend to dry out when I slow cook them...but bone in cuts remain juicy. I was worried about how the gravy would taste but it was really very good. Even my 5 year old gobbled it up. =O)
