Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
I'm not a big fan of chicken to begin with. It was definitely good, but not exciting. I agree with other reviewers that say to marinade this as long as you can. It is very easy to make. It's a good choice for a potluck because there isn't anything bizarre or unusual for people not to like.

Flavorful German Pork Chops and Sauerkraut

Good enough to make on a regular basis without getting tired of it. It's simple, straightforward, and classic.

Potato, Ham, Broccoli and Cheese Soup with Baby Dumplings

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2013
I made this vegetarian by using vegetable broth and substituting a half bag of split peas for the ham. The peas made the soup really ugly, but if you can see passed ugly food, it was tasty. I made ham on the side for the non-vegetarians. It really needs the ham. Without the ham, it needs a lot more salt.

I liked how easy it was, but it was unexciting.

Slow-Cooker Fish Chowder

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2013
A good and easy chowder. I used at least double the celery. I also substituted a pound of canned ham for the bacon. I didn't have any bacon. I used only a pinch of black pepper and red pepper. I wanted something smooth and mild. This was a good choice for dinner after a long day. I put the vegetables in the crock pot the night before. The kids added the broth and corn when they got home from school. I added the milk, ham and seafood when I got home. It took all of two seconds, so I had an hour to rest after work instead of cooking. I look forward to making this again.

Tantalizing Turkey and Blue Cheese Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
My 10 and 13 year old sons made these for me. They doubled the bread crumbs and doubled the cheese. They were delicious! This will be a regular dish in our house. Very easy to make.

Cheryl's Spinach Cheesy Pasta Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2013
This will probably be a standard dish in my house when I'm too tired to cook. Super easy. Delicious, but unexciting. Something you can eat on a regular basis but wouldn't make for company or a potluck. I used zucchini instead of spinach, although I would have preferred spinach. (I didn't have any.) Also, I added cubed chicken to the top layer. (two breasts) I cooked it covered except the last 10 minutes. I only used mozzarella cheese and only one layer in the middle, not two. I omitted the cheddar cheese because that seemed to be too many flavors and too cheesy. I think I ended up with the perfect amount of cheesiness and probably used about 12 oz of just mozzarella. Some of my family topped their servings with fresh cilantro and parmesan cheese.

Turkey Sandwiches with Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2013
One of my all-time favorites, although I did modify mine a little. I did not use the butter and mayonnaise. I used cream cheese instead. I added finely chopped celery to the cream cheese to give it a little crunch because I also did not use the bacon. I love bacon, but I didn't have any. It really doesn't matter too much what you use as long as you keep the turkey and the cranberry sauce. That combination is heavenly. It's very good on any seeded bread. Very hearty and rustic that way. I also added alfalfa sprouts.

Mexican Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2013
I made this vegetarian. I was not expecting to like this so much. It seemed like a lot of canned food, but it also seemed super easy, which it was. I did not use beef or cheese. I didn't have any beef and I had already snacked on cheese that day, so I didn't want anymore. I used canned kidney beans in place of the ground beef. I didn't miss the cheese at all even though I'm a big cheese lover. I mixed the canned kidney beans, canned corn, canned diced tomatoes, and a large can of whole olives with the taco seasoning and used this as the base. Then I put a layer of raw chopped onion on top of the mix. I didn't pre-cook any part of it because I didn't need to blend the flavors into any meat. I also put a layer of very thinly sliced radishes, four radishes total. I really only did this because I had four radishes and no plans for them. I then put the cornbread mix on top of that. When the dish had cooked for about 5 minutes, I sprinkled fresh chopped cilantro on top of it to make it look pretty. The only thing I would do different if I make it again is to use a can of diced tomatoes with green chiles instead of plain diced tomatoes. It was kind of bland. Edit: I had to lower this rating from 4 to 3 stars because I was giving it an "I like it" with a shrug, but what I really meant was it was OK.

Honey Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2013
This dish tastes awesome with peanut butter, either chicken in peanut sauce or a peanut butter loaf. I did not use the MSG. At first the carrots did not get soft because I did not cover them. I covered them and put them back in the oven. They softened the way I like them after that.

Wonton Wrappers

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2013
I used this recipe for the won tons I made from another recipe on this site. I didn't mind rolling them out by hand. I enjoyed it. I also covered the dough with a wet towel while I mixed up my won ton filling. Then I went back to making squares. I didn't get them as thin as store bought won ton wrappers, but they still cooked up crispy.

Sloppy Sams

Scrumptious!! I didn't have the mustard powder and I completely forgot the black pepper. Still, I ate two of them even though I was full after one. I couldn't stop myself. Everybody liked them, even my die hard meat and potato eating dad.

Hawaiian Banana Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2013
I thought the mixture was a little low on banana and a little dry, but I didn't have anymore bananas, so I added a little orange juice. They were very good. I halved the recipe and it made a perfect six bars. Not too sweet.

Kielbasa with Brussels Sprouts in Mustard Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2013
These were the best Brussels sprouts I've ever made; and we eat Brussels Sprouts on a very regular basis. They are one of our favorite foods. I took the time to make the shallot and garlic in the oven. It was ridiculously fast and easy, so there's no need to skip this step. It made the kitchen smell awesome. I used sour cream instead of heavy cream and butter beans instead of cannellini/white kidney beans. Next time I'll use the white kidney or Northern beans, but this time I used what I had. This was very good with cracked pepper on top.

Grilled Sausages with Caramelized Onions and Apples

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2013
Scrumptious! I used apple cider vinegar. I served with brussels sprouts in a mustard cream sauce, another recipe from this website. Although I previously made the horseradish mashed potatoes from this website, I didn't make them to go with this dish. Next time I will.

Bruschetta with Shallots

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2013
I didn't have fresh tomatoes, so I used (1) 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes with jalapeno and (1) 10 oz can of diced tomato with green chili. I also didn't have fresh basil so I used about 1/6 cup of dried basil and then added about 1/2 cup of fresh chopped green onion to give it texture and color. I had a fresh shallot and fresh garlic and I think this would not have worked had I not had the fresh shallot and garlic. I toasted sourdough bread in the oven. My entire family devoured this.

Addictive Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2013
I cut back the sugar without using any substitute. I left out the walnuts because I didn't have any. The trick to soak the raisins in hot water for 10 minutes before mixing them in was wonderful. The raisins were plump and gooey in these muffins. The muffins didn't turn out like cake or a dessert. They have a heartier, more wholesome taste and texture. Very good.
