Pasties II

I really wanted to love this recipe. I made them almost like written with the exception of adding garlic and also a spoonful of beef gravy to each pastie before sealing. I am unsure given the ingredients; why they were so bland? Maybe the addition of mushrooms or other herbs would help? I think it's a good basic recipe that can be built upon. I will probably play around with this one to make it a bit more tasty. The crust was very nice and flaky and I thought easy to work with.

Cream of Mushroom Soup

I followed this recipe to the letter. The flavor is very good but I thought the amount of mushrooms was skimpy. I would at least double them next time. Also I didn't have chicken broth so I used chicken bouillon and therefore left out the salt. It ended up needing just a touch of salt in the end.

Banana Oatmeal Cookie

I just made these cookies. I thought they were a little bland. I made them as written. Next time I'll change it by using brown sugar and upping the spices a bit to give them more flavor.

Southern Dill Potato Salad

My daughter made this for our picnic today and we thought it was absolutely delicious! Nice change from the usual salad using mustard. Full of flavor! I liked the creamy texture.. Just right!

Vinegar Taffy

Oh my goodness! I grew up on vinegar taffy! Then I made it with my children. This is even good if you don't pull it. and just drop it onto waxed paper in little globs. Here is a tip. you can roll the pieces in a bit of powdered sugar to keep them from sticking together or from sticking to the paper you may have wrapped them in. Delicious!

Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake

I added some almond flavoring to the dough and dropped them onto a cookie sheet like a biscuit. Also sprinkled a pinch of sugar on the tops. I liked them a lot but prefer regular shortcake. Just personal taste. The recipe worked for me. Had no problems with it being dry or crumbly.
