Grew up with a mom who couldn't cook, and a step-father who had worked in the restaurant business for quite a long time, and was a wonderful cook. Thankfully I honed my skills watching him flit about the kitchen and not her! I currently am a web developer during the day, but I am always planning for the next big dinner. My husband thinks (and he's probably right) that I have a recipe addiction - you can never have enough! On occaision I assist chefs at a nearby cooking school, prepping ingredients, etc., which is a great way to learn from the best...
My favorite things to cook
Meat, meat and meat! I have recently stumbled onto the greatest way to cook steaks - sear in cast iron, finish off in the oven, and make a wonderful sauce using the drippings!
My favorite family cooking traditions
The only person that ever really cooked in my family was my step-dad..My mom could burn anything!!!
My cooking triumphs
Christmas dinner this year:
-Crab filled crepes w/ chive vinegarette
-Wreath salad (smoked turkey, roasted hazelnuts, dried cranberries, red pepper, bleu cheese) with a Pomegranate dressing
-Mushroom/Bacon stuffed beef tenderlion
-Pumpking Gingerbread Pudding
My cooking tragedies
Ugh - I attempted to make a chicken fried steak for some guy friends of mine while I was in college and it turned into a pan of glue!!!
