Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Yummy!! Read the reviews first and the only change I make is to put a layer of sauce on the bottom of the dish, just like when making lasagna. I follow rest of directions like written & it's never been dry. Think of it as a quicker, easier lasagna.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
Thanks, Jennifer, this one is a definite keeper. Made it just like written except used bundt (sprayed with Baker's Joy). Used about 3/4 of the brown sugar/cinnamon in the middle, then lightly sprinkled the rest on top of the batter before baking. Used only 1/2 the glaze bc DH was watching me and is the sugar police. Excellent.

Pumpkin Butter I

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
Made a couple of batches to hand out to guests at our fall BBQ. Must say, seemed a little bland which was surprising considering the spices used. Previous reviewer may be right, brown sugar may help. Probably won't make again.

Old Fashioned Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
Good stuff...just like Mom's. Of course, she could never give me a recipe with amounts, etc. I like the sauteeing the veggies first, that's how I grew up making it. Only change I make is to used cubed bread--another preference (or cheat and use bags of herbed bread from the grocery!). I play with liquid amounts to suit but this recipe as printed is generally spot on. And I like to add a little evaporated milk bc that's how mom did it.

Shredded Venison Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
We're a family of deer hunters and always like new ways to use it up. My husband and I didn't like the sauce but I think it was the Liquid Smoke which I should have cut back on bc it can overpower. Brother, inlaws & nephew liked it fine.

Orange Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
WOW!! Followed other tips, used DH Orange cake, vanilla pudding, orange extract. LOVED the tip to put cooled cake back in pan to glaze the bottom, then flip out & glaze top. One thing: MAKE THE GLAZE, it's delish. Think syrup, it's yummy & buttery and gives a crusty bite when cool. Thanks for a keeper!!

Banana Butter Icing

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
It was ok and guests liked it fine. But I do alot of pastries and thought it lacked. I think it's just too much powdered sugar for the amount of butter because it had the 10X sugar after taste.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
Just like Mom used to make. Very nice on a cold evening. I skipped the ham but agree with earlier review that this would make a great clam chowder.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
Real good, homey food. Followed advice of others and used chicken broth instead of water. Also used part chicken breast & part boneless, skinless thighs because I love the flavor. So easy (and yes, it took a good hour after adding the biscuits).

Awesome Baked Sea Scallops

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2008
This dish was fine. I decreased bread crumb topping like others suggested & agree it doesn't add much. I put under the broiler for five minutes to make it a little crunchier. Probably won't make again because with the price of scallops, I want a little more than fine.

Antipasto Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
These are always a hit. I use banana pepper rings instead of the roasted red peppers just because I like the taste. And I give a squirt of Zesty Italian dressing before putting on the top crust. Yum, little handheld Italian subs!!

Kentucky Butter Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
GREAT CAKE!!! Followed the recipe exactly and it works great adding all the wet to all the dry, I didn't even soften the butter first. Made sure the butter sauce went down the sides of the pan and it is a moist yummy delight!! A keeper in the recipe box.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2005
Love this recipe. I was surprised at how favorful the beef was, even after all that simmering. I used a little more corn starch/water just because the family likes a thick gravy but it was great. No leftovers & I've made it several times. Nov. 2008...still using this yummy recipe. Also works great with venison, simmering in the boullion all but removed that gamey taste.

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2005
VERY YUMMY!! Used the 3-kernel method as suggested and, the 2nd time, used the butter flavor Criso...very good!! Also, I popped in dutch oven (enamel coated). Clean up was easy when I just dumped the corn out, added a little water to the pan & let it simmer a bit.

Santa's Favorite Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2004
Great cake...lots of compliments on the pretty cake on Christmas Day!! My mother-in-law bought me the ingredients to make her one to serve her bridge club a week later. The cake stays real moist. I also added crushed Starlight mints to the top for a little color.
