Started cooking about 4 yrs ago, I got very inspired by watching Anne Burrel, Ina Garten was also a great facilitator, and back then Emeril Lagasse had the 1 hr live cooking show -- wow, he was FANTASTIC!!!!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Probably Moroccan and related Magreb countries. I love Slow Mediterranean Kitchen by Paula Wolfert, what a wealth of information! Not only does this have recipes, it also has the why's and the how's by experts! I also find Cooks Illustrated to be extremely helpful!
And, of course, I LOVE to cook! The possibilities are endless!
My cooking triumphs
Too many to name! Just about everything I've made. Some things I've made well, but did not care for the recipe -- I found out later! Oh well, cook, taste and like/dislike! I manage to use every ingrediet of the recipe, i.e., if I have leftover sauce, I will use it in something else. And of course, I make my own chicken broth -- like no other! It can actually revive the dead!
My cooking tragedies
I once made a bean soup twice b/c I made a mistake the first time, but even following the recipe, it was not good. Once, I made a Dutch baby and left out the baking powder and added the lemon juice, well, it didn't rise. But then I made it again, and followed the recipe -- only to find out I didn't like it. Recently I made some scones and need more heavy cream, but didn't have any more and they came out dry -- so I threw them out. I have blown very few recipes!
