I'm definitely a foodie and was raised on home grown, and home cooked food. Both my parents are excellent cooks, and I learned the skills my mom gained from my great grandmother, who was from Italy. Recently I have gone gluten free due to Celiac disease, so I've been experimenting with gluten free versions of my favorites. I also try to stay to the paleo eating plan, which avoids grains and beans. Being an artist I look at cooking as a form of art. There is nothing more satisfying than coming up with a dish that looks as well as tastes completely awesome! Also, I'm big into canning all the home grown veggies like green beans, tomatoes, pickles, and sauces. Homemade stock is so easy to can for quick soups in winter too.
My favorite things to cook
I love making anything Italian. One of my favorite things to do is smoke chickens and turkeys. I make an excellent pulled pork in the smoker. Pretty much if I've eaten it at a restaurant I attempt to make it at home. So far that has worked with Dim Sum, Pad Kee Mao (my fav Thai dish), and Mexican dishes like pork carnitas.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The favorite family cooking tradition for me is gnocchi. My mom makes the best gnocchi. Unfortunately for me, they aren't gluten free, so I can't partake in my mom's gnocchi. Hopefully I can come up with a gluten free version that are similar in texture and flavor.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest triumphs have been with using the smoker. I've finally mastered smoked chicken, so it always comes out perfect.
My cooking tragedies
I tried making a rice casserole once that just turned out like pure yuck on a plate.
