About this Cook
I have been cooking since my l0th birthday in 1937. My only grandson is a chef and we are writing a cookbook together.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are all types of cookies, New York style cheesecakes, chicken any way you can think of fixing it, and stir fried or grilled veggies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making cookies and candies for my family and friends for special occasions. For many years I have kept a Cooking Notebook. It has really turned into my own Family Cookbook. I encourage you to start such a Cooking Notebook to record your family traditions.
My cooking triumphs
Changing recipes to suit the tastes of my family has afforded me many cooking triumphs. When you tweak a recipe and the results are good it gives you a feeling of success. Your ideas are as good as those of anyone else. Flex your wings and fly up the cooking ladder to the next rung. It is a lot of fun!
My cooking tragedies
My cooking tragedies have been few and far between. My maternal grandmother lived with us and taught me how to cook. She was an exceptionally good cook and taught me well. About the worse mess I ever made was making chicken curry for a crowd and accidentally putting confectioners' sugar in it instead of cornstarch. When it failed to thicken, I kept adding a little more sugar dissolved in water. When I realized I had picked up the wrong cannister it was too late to start over. I went ahead and thickened the sauce and served it to about a dozen friends. Since I am known as a very good cook they ate the sweet sauce and thought that I had developed a new recipe. It really turned out much better than I thought it could. My careless mistake actually turned into a triumph. I still make sweet curry sauce from time to time; however, I have toned the sugar level down considerably and turned it into a real recipe. That mistake could have cost me my cooking reputation.
