I did not care for this recipe. I've tried numerous times to make dumplings a short-cut way and it never works out. It didn't in this case, either. The bread dough would not cook in 30 minutes and we were already so late getting dinner on that I just scooped off the "dumplings" (sodden bread dough) and ate the chicken and broth with pasta. I gave it two stars because the chicken without the sodden bread dough was not bad. I cannot imagine how anybody gets a good result with the dough in a crockpot.
