Left out the corn and bean sprouts...Loved the glaze but the finished product was a bit oily so will cut back on the vo next time...I made Jasmine rice cooked in veg broth and added 2 scrambled eggs..also served with fried scallion/cream cheese stuffed wontons..Company AND kids were happy! Thanks Dell

Ramen Coleslaw

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
...This definitely tastes better than it looks. I toasted the ramen noodles before adding and also added some shredded carrots for color...I absolutely loved the dressing and will double it next time..also will let the slaw and dressing set in the fridge overnight and add the toasted ramen and nuts before serving. Nice change from my standard mayo based coleslaw and always need another recipe to use up ramen noodles...Thanks Mary!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
...These were very easy to make and pretty tasty too. I fried a small one before I froze the rest and was good but a little mushy in the middle. Once I thawed the others and threw them on the grill they were even better. They stayed together nicely and had much more flavor then my taste test patty. Make sure you use all the liquid from the onion, pepper (I used red) and garlic puree and freeze before grilling for better texture....Thanks for a great recipe!

Down Home Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
..Was looking for a simple side to serve with our ribs and kabobs we grilled this weekend. I have made my own mac and cheese in the past and it has always turned out bland...after reading all the reviews I decided this one would be different and was right! I followed the recipe except that I couldn't help but add a little garlic salt and cayenne pepper to the roux. Everyone at the BBQ loved it! Will put this one in my recipe book and make again...Thanks Kraft!.....Why can't your boxed mac and cheese taste this good?

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2006
..Have the squirt bottle ready!! Of course these flamed because of the bacon, but sacrificing a few arm hairs and half an eyebrow was worth it! I marinated mine for 24hrs and put the veggies and meat on separate skewers..used regular cut bacon and made sure there was space between for even cooking. I used sm-med sized whole button mushrooms, red peppers and onion on mine and served with an onion rice pilaf. Really good flavors happening here..Thanks Angie!

They were ok..next time I will add more seasoning and fresh garlic. Also turned out a little dry so will add a splash of evoo as well...

Watermelon Margaritas

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2006
..I scooped seedless watermelon with my cookie scoop and placed them on a cookie sheet in the freezer. When it was time for drinks, just threw them in the blender with the other ingredients (no ice) and had the best frozen margaritas!

Applesauce Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
..I have been canning apple pie filling and had a few leftover apples to use up. I came across this recipe and with the help of "Sara's applesauce" made these bars. Really moist and yummy! I baked mine in a 7x11 glass dish at 325 for 25 mins. Just sprinkled conf sugar on top (makes it easier to pack for lunches)..Love the pumpkin pie spice!

Bodacious Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
...After reading the other reviews I decided to make the dressing like DYANN suggested. Turned out really good! Put this together early in the afternoon and ended up adding more fresh brocc just before we ate...husband and I had this for dinner with hot rolls...was a nice light meal. Thanks Cassandra.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2006
..Love this recipe. Had a bunch of Granny Smith apples and decided to make Fried apple pies. This pastry was easy to use, held up when fried and resulted in a sweet flaky crust for my apple filling. The only change I made was used butter rather than shortening. Think I will try cherry next...Thanks TJ!

Chicken and Mushroom Saute

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2006
...Super quick AND takes very little effort. The only advice I have is to be sure to pound the chicken rather thin, use a heavy hand when seasoning the flour and use fresh mushrooms...I doubled the recipe and we were scraping the pan to get the last of the gravy. I served over brown rice and had a spinach and tomato salad to go with. Thanks Angela..will make this again!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
..as written these would be good, but a bit bland. I was trying to use up some dip I made this week and came across this recipe. (I mixed cream cheese with diced roasted red pepper, green onion, sharp cheddar, garlic powder)and stuffed my peppers with that. Wrapped them in 1/2 slice of bacon and grilled until bacon was crisp. Husband ate all but 2. These will definitely be made every time we fire up the grill!

Easy Key Lime Pie I

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
...I have wanted to make this pie for a long time now and was actually waiting until I purchased Key Lime juice..never got around to it....SO...I followed the advice of SHRAE1 and used 1/2c ea lemon and lime juice. Made my own crust (1c graham cc, 3Tbls sugar and 5Tbls melted butter & baked for 5 mins) and did not bother with the whipped topping. With these modifications mine took 20 mins to bake...my son and his friends had two pieces ea..very creamy! Thanks Pat and SHRAE1. Will make this again when I get some real Key Lime juice.

Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2006
...I started out making House Fried Rice and discovered I was out of rice!? (heat must be getting to me)..so..with my veggies semi-stir fried I decided to make soup. Threw my veggies (onion, broc, carrots and celery) in a stock pot added some frozen corn and roasted red pepper and garlic and proceeded with this recipe. I didn't have to boil the veggies just brought the chicken broth to a simmer, added the milk and flour..stirred..added the parsley, lots of ground black pepper and sharp cheddar. Good soup! Served with Tomato Bruschetta. Thanks R.A...you saved the day.

Vegetable Beef Soup II

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2006
...File this one under "leftovers" because it is the perfect recipe for leftover steak.. I had 2 grilled sirloin steaks that had marinated in steak seasoning and cooked rare...cut them into small dice and added to the onion and garlic I had sauteed in butter. I pureed the tomatoes and added 4 cups of beef stock (Tone's Beef Base) instead of the 5 cups of water. I also used 2 cups of frozen mixed veggies (peas, corn, gr beans and carrots) since I needed my fresh veggies for a crudites..added a good size pinch of br sugar and after simmering for 45 mins I ended up with a really flavorful soup. Had this for lunch with french bread and salad.. I also ended up with enough to give to my neighbor who could tell I was cooking and happened to stop by...Thanks Priscilla!

Sensational Sirloin Kabobs

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2006
..Tired of the same ol' steak and potatoes? Try these kabobs! The marinade is really easy to throw together in the morning resulting in tender, yummy bites of sirloin. I used fresh garlic and cracked pepper rather than the 1/2 tsp of garlic pepper and 4 oz of sprite. I didn't blanch my veggies since we like them crisp and added onion in place of the cherry tomatoes (didn't have any). I wanted more meat and veggies so grilled pineapple rings on the side. Next time I will marinade the 'shrooms, peppers and onions and try rosemary skewers...will make these again..thx Kimber!!

Finnish Pulla

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2006
..My brother opened a cafe in Conneaut Ohio and sent me a loaf of bread that is made by a local bakery. I came across this recipe and found it to be very similar. It was fairly easy to make and tastes very close to the one from Ohio. I added at least 1 Tbls of cardamom (love it) and dusted with crystal sugar like they did..So good!

Chicken Wing Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2006
Made this for a party we attended last night. VERY intense flavor! I cooked and shredded a chicken breast and made my own ranch dressing. Served with a dollop of sour cream, sliced gr onion and had celery sticks to dip with. Some of us tried this with tortilla chips but made it VERY salty...we liked the celery better...next time I am going to try using blue cheese dressing and less cheddar, will cut back on the cream cheese and maybe stir in some sour cream. Was a crowd pleaser!
