About this Cook
I am a student at sfsu and I like to be outdoors, hiking, biking, running and gardening.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make breakfast for my son, usually pancakes or banana-nutella crepes with whipped cream and grated dark chocolate. I also make a really good chicken breast strip, which is seasoned with thyme from our garden. I also love to experiment with different variations of chocolate chip cookies. Right now I started using cocoa nibs and pecans, an amazing flavor combo.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I enjoy family holiday baking. We make cookies and decorate them. I also make the Thanksgiving pies and my specialties are triple cherry pie with the lattice crust and hand-picked blackberry pie. I use the scraps to make pie cookies which some family members like as much as the pie. I also have a mac and cheese recipe which I learned from my mom. It probably the best I've had. Our Christmas tradition is a standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding.
My cooking triumphs
the aforementioned pies and cookies and mac and cheese. I've recently developed a gluten-free, vegan chocolate wafer and maple-vanilla wafer. You wouldn't believe how delicious they are!
My cooking tragedies
the occasional runny pie or spread out cookies (not enough flour)

Make-Ahead Marsala Turkey Gravy
great recipe. I used chanterelles because I didn't have any porcinis, and the dry white wine as suggested by the author. I strained out the mushrooms after the gravy was done since they were really chewy, but they contributed a lovely flavor to the gravy, giving it a rich earthiness which everyone at Thanksgiving loved. Thanks for the recipe!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
this is a great recipe. I followed the advice of "MARGIEBOZ" and used the oatmeal for one cup of the flour. I also added cocoa nibs, which give the cookie a nice nutty accent (you can find them at health food stores), and a handful of toasted pecans, yum...The dough has a very good cookie consistency. My son and his girlfriend promptly inhaled about a dozen of them on the spot, which is always a good indicator. Thanks for the recipe.
