About this Cook
I'm a wife and mother of 4 and I love cooking, vegetable and flower gardening and all things crafty. I have collected hundreds of vintage cookbooks over the years and am always looking for new and different recipes to try.
My favorite things to cook
Baking anything - bread, cakes, cookies, pies, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Roast goose every Christmas and a horrendous concoction my mother used to serve every Christmas made from fruit salad, maraschino cherries, marshmallows, nuts and Cool Whip. Eating it always brings back memories of Christmases past.
My cooking triumphs
Cupcakes I made for a bake sale at school. Each cupcake was decorated with frosting that made it look like a different type of flower - roses, daffodils, chrysanthemums, violets, daisies, etc. Received more compliments for them than anything else I've made.
My cooking tragedies
The time I tried to cook lasagna for company and couldn't figure out why the cheese on top kept turning black until I realized I had my oven set to broil instead of bake!

Carrot Salad
I made this salad for Easter to go with our ham. It was very good and nowhere as sweet as I thought it would be - which was good. Instead of pineapple tidbits I used crushed pineapple and left out the celery. Everyone enjoyed it, even my 6 year old who hates all things vegetable. I would definitely make this again. Great recipe!

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic
This is simply the best sweet potato recipe I've ever tasted. I don't particularly like sweet potatoes but this is delicious and my family loves it. When I make the topping I reduce the amount of butter (it was a bit too greasy for my taste). Superb recipe, I'll never use another!

Mixed Vegetable Casserole
This recipe looked like it would be good and quick but no one in my family really liked it much (especially the kids). It remained mostly uneaten. Way too tangy. Perhaps too much mayo? I doubt I will be trying again.
