The Rustler's Gathering...Thank You All

Dear Friends and Family,

You will never know how much you have helped to lift my heart.

Russell's request for "The Gathering", months after the end of his days, made perfect sense, to me at the time, but as the days went by, my concern was that the meaning of the Gathering was going to be lost and that I would end up with an added emptiness. Nothing could have been farther from the truth!

To walk through such a large crowd of warm, compassionate people and catch the converstion snippits, "Russell would be LOVING this", "This is DEFINATELY Russell's party", "Rusell's playin harp, somewhere", "Thanks for stopping the rain, Russell", set my mind at ease...People were definately there to happily celebrate The Rustlers life.

Since "the Gathering", my heart is lighter, the clouds that have engulfed me for the past few months have lifted a bit, life looks brighter...all because of you, dear friends, and Russell's beliefs.

You were right again, Russell!

Thank you ALL, friends and family...I love you...stay safe!!!

Much gratitude and love,

Don't you just love how the happy memories leave the sadder ones in the dust?! I'm so grateful that you now have this wonderful memory to cling to with the laughter and love that he would have loved to have seen (or maybe he did!).

Ruth,I'm happy to hear that Russell's gathering has given you a little bit of peace. Russell's spirit will remain within you. You are never alone. Please reach out to us when those dark clouds do roll in,there are many of us who have taken this journey and it is easier when you are not walking alone. I will keep you in my thought and prayers.

Ruth, I could tell from the pictures on FB that it was a gathering filled with love. That is truly testament to the bond of love you and Russell shared with each other and with your family and friends. That hasn't died, Ruth, it will endure as those you touch/ed continue to share it with their families and friends. Truly a life well spent.

As the old saying goes, "You don't know what you've got til it's gone." Russell must have been good for you, your family, your community and on and on! Healing takes time and we will still be here when you need us!

Hi Eake- I am back after a few months of being out of wi fi connection. You were never far from my thoughts though. I am happy to hear that your Rustler had such a wonderful Gathering. I think it's nice to hear and know that others miss him, loved him too. I hope you continue to do well and life continues to love you back.

I knew it would be a wonderful gathering. I think Rustler is so right about the delayed tribute. I am going to encourage Sparky to do the same for me :) See.....he left a lasting legacy that may spread around the planet. XO

Life's journey continues and he will always be with you. It sounds like he knew what you would need, and that is, indeed, a beautiful gift. I am so glad the sky looks a bit more blue. One day at a time. Know that your AR family is always here, too.

He was a truly thoughtful man - both in life and beyond. Always mindful of what would be best for you. Would you mind telling us what were some of his favorite dishes?
Oct. 9, 2011 2:13 pm
:o) Baked chicken, rice and gravy was his favorite meal...Lobster, when we went out...favorite dessert, my cherry pie...He hated mushrooms and beets...

a gathering is a wonderful idea, Eake. The sad tears were shed and out of the way, this allowed time for remembering the good times and sharing them with all who loved him. Take Care!

About Me
I'm a fairly resent widow, still trying to figure out how to enjoy my life. Cooking was always a passion of mine but seems to have fallen by the wayside. My passion (or lot) has turned to thinking and thinking and thinking.
My favorite things to cook
Simple, quick meals...
My cooking tragedies
First loaf of bread when I was newly's probably still in one piece, in some landfill, somewhere...
