Dear Friends and Family, You will never know how much you have helped to lift my heart. Russell's request for "The Gathering", months after the end of his days, made perfect sense, to me at the time, but as the days went by, my concern was that the meaning of the Gathering was going to be lost… MORE

Before going to bed at night, say, "I love you". Before leaving the house (even if it's to just run to the store for a gallon of milk), say, "I love you". At the end of every phone conversation, say, "I love you". At the end of every letter, note, honey to do list, say, "I love you" Tell your ch MORE

July 13, 2011 My Dearest friend and Husband, what happened my love??? The morning was perfect! We had the house to ourselves, the weather was lovely, the humming birds seemed extra busy, your back seemed to be a little kinder to you, even after doing that wonderful job on the lawn the day… MORE

Occasionally the question "How do I make a bread starter?" pops up on the "Buzz". Here are some instructions from someone who has been using sourdough starters for 20 years, ME :o) I have 2 starters in my refrigerator at all times. One is a starter that my BIL brought back… MORE

Back in January I wrote a blog "The Sweetest Part of the Lobster", recounting bits and pieces of my family's lineage. Since that time I have learned a bit more and feel the need to correct a few points, not that it makes much difference in the big scheme of things, but working my… MORE

Let's talk food safety. I am always a little puzzeled by the number of posts that ask the question, "I left __________ out on the counter overnight, is it still good to eat or should I toss it?" I am even more puzzeled by the number of  responses stating things like "If it smells MORE

Over the past few years, I have done a lot of thinking about the obesity problems in our country. Because of the business that I am in, I am an assistant manager in our local school kitchen, public schools have come under fire for a large part of this problem. Although the public school… MORE

My self taught, home cooking, skills began in 1975, the year that I was first married. Being raised in a family where cooking was a necessary evil, did nothing to prepare me for the real world of GOOD food. I jumped in with both feet, full of the confidence and fearlessness of a young modern… MORE

I am well aware that many, if not most, cooks, learned their way around the kitchen from their mothers. It was also made quite clear, from my last blog, that most peoples comfort foods came from childhood memories of Mom's cooking. If you have been following my blogs then you know that my… MORE

About Me
I'm a fairly resent widow, still trying to figure out how to enjoy my life. Cooking was always a passion of mine but seems to have fallen by the wayside. My passion (or lot) has turned to thinking and thinking and thinking.
My favorite things to cook
Simple, quick meals...
My cooking tragedies
First loaf of bread when I was newly married...it's probably still in one piece, in some landfill, somewhere...
