Taste of Home's Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2004
These were good but I wouldn't say "delicious". They did remind me a little of carrot cake but heavier. They make a hearty breakfast muffin. There are too many ingredients in the recipe to make it 5 star.

Grandma's Chew Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2004
These are easy to make and surprisingly yummy. When they first came out of the oven I thought they were only kind of chewy. Ten minutes later I could see why they were considered "chew" bread. If you love brown sugar, you'll love these.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2004
Yes, it's true. This cake is good. It's sweeter than banana bread and it's very moist. I used the caramel frosting someone recommended (the kind you have to cook-- I also had to triple the batch) and it made the cake superb.

Caramel Frosting I

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2004
This was good on the banana cake I made. I had to make it twice though, to cover up the whole cake. Next time I'll just make a double batch. Also, they're right about it hardening up if you don't work quickly. Otherwise, it has a really good flavor.

Snappy Green Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2004
I thought this was just average. Not great. Maybe I did it wrong. It wasn't bad but maybe I should have used fresh green beans (although it asks for canned) and I used the white vinegar but someone suggested red wine vinegar instead. It was also a tad greasy.

Corn Flake Cookies I

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2004
If you like soft cookies with a crunchy twist on the inside, you'll like these. I thought they were just ok. I enjoyed them when they were hot but lost interest when they cooled.

Orange Cream Milk Punch

This is like a creamy orange julius. Yum!

Swedish Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2004
I enjoyed these pancakes. They were kind of flat (are they supposed to be flat? I folded them up like they do at IHOP). They were really good smothered in butter and spinkled with cinnimon and sugar.

Cinnamon Rolls III

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2004
These were fantastic. The people at work loved them! I didn't have vanilla pudding so I used instant cheesecake pudding instead. It still worked. The egg wasn't at room temperature so I just ran it under warm water for a few minutes. Apparantly this recipe is very forgiving.

Hawaiian Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
This bread is sweet and firm. The next day I toasted it and used Presidente butter. It was yummy!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
The gravy wasn't visually appealing but it was very tasty!

Caramel Crispy Treats II

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
These are very sweet and chocolatey. I can see why a person would bring them to a potluck because they carry well. I still like marshmallow treats better so I'm giving these an average rating.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
I liked these a lot. They are kind of like Texas King Ranch Casserole except for they use flour instead of corn tortillas and the tortillas are rolled instead of cut into pieces. I might add just a touch more milk on the final step to make them more saucy.

Impossible Coconut Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
This recipe is clever. Somehow some of the ingredients collect at the bottom of the pan and create a soft crust. The coconut floats to the top and turns golden brown. The center is like a vanilla custard. I love this recipe! It's so easy to make!

Plum Good Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
This recipe seems weird but the baby food makes this cake really moist and fragrant. I cut it up and froze some pieces to eat later throughout the month....it seems to freeze well. I made frosting out of confectioners sugar, butter, vanilla and a few tablespoons of chopped canned plums or baby food.

Mango Cashew Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2004
Because I love mangos, apples and cashews this makes a not bad side salad. Next time I might just use lime juice instead of vinegar. The vinegar makes the cashews lose their crunch after sitting for awhile.

Bread Machine Challah I

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2004
I don't know if I have an appreciation for challah like others do. It's heavier than other breads. It was good, however. I liked the top crust, it was flaky around the edges and it had a nice golden color.

Grandpa's Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2004
I agree with the person who said not to cook it to 300 degrees (instead 250). I would have liked the syrup not to be so hard because it makes them difficult to eat. Flavor was good.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2004
I liked the meat and potatoes. The gravy gets nice and thick. I'm not sure what gave it the different flavor, maybe it was the worchestershire sauce or paprika. I feel like I need to change something but I don't know what. I ate the left overs for two days so I must have liked it.

Sun-Dried Tomato and Bow Tie Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2004
I tried this recipe exactly as described. The flavors were good but it seemed like the recipe turned out too dry. The oil is absorbed in the dried basil and dried tomatoes so their isn't much liquid left to simmer. I think fresh basil would have made a big difference, or prepared pesto from a jar.
