I have loved to cook since I was a little kid. I have been a nurse for over 30 years and a nurse practitioner for 11, so caring for people is just part of who I am, and cooking for people is just another way of caring for them.
My favorite things to cook
Bread! I also like to can and preserve food, and really enjoy day-to-day, ordinary cooking.
My cooking triumphs
I made a beef Wellington once, even making the puff pastry and the pâté by hand. It was a hit, but I have to admit it was NOT worth all that fuss. I wanted to see if I could do it, and I did do it, and feel no need to ever do it again!
My cooking tragedies
I once baked a hen that came out of the oven looking gorgeous, but when my guest of honor tried to carve it, the knife practically bounced off of it. It was the toughest chicken I ever saw. It must have actually been an old rooster! We ended up sending out for pizza - it was utterly inedible. I have also blown up a pressure cooker. And more that I can't think of right now. Fortunately, the disasters are fewer and fewer as the years go by.
