Cinnamon-Apple Cake AKA Hanukkah Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2012
Excellent cake. The only thing I would suggest is decreasing the sugar. We found it a tad too sweet...but the flavour is otherwise outstanding.

Spicy Orange Zest Beef

Reviewed: May 21, 2012
Good base, but needs tweaking, as I found the flavours abit bland. I also added some ginger to my marinarde, and red and green peppers to add some colour and crunch.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2012
This is my go-to pancake recipe now. I have tried many other pancake recipes, but they always seem to fall short. This one is the best by far, and makes the fluffiest and lightest pancakes ever!

German Baby

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2010
This is a keeper! I add a pinch of salt, 1 tsp of sugar, and 1/2 tsp vanilla to the batter and its perfect! I bake this is my 9" cast iron skillet for 20 min at 400, and it comes out perfectly cooked. It tastes like a thick crepe to me, and is just delicious.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2010
By far, the best banana bread recipe on this site! I also creamed the butter with the sugar, added 1 cup mashed bananas, touch of cinnamon and a touch of lemon juice. Certainly one of the most moist and flavourful banana breads I have ever made. As I have a convection oven, I adjusted the oven temp to 300 and baked for about an hour. Perfection!

Zucchini in Sour Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
I was abit sceptical about this one, and how it could be "that good". But, I was pleasantly surprised. This recipe truly lives up to its ratings, and is definitely a keeper...5 stars!

Water Chestnut Wraparounds

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
These were only ok. I was expecting these to be a lot better based on the reviews, but they were almost disappointing. I'll stick with bacon-wrapped scallops or liver.

Honey-Garlic Glazed Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
While the meatballs were good, I did find the sauce to be a little strange. Can't say I loved it, but it wasn't too bad either. Good if you are looking for something different.

Puttanesca I

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
This has become one of our favourite red sauces. It is loaded with flavour, and you need no meat to accompany this at all - the sauce is totally satisfying! Like other people, I do not add the full amount of oil, but maybe about half. I add abit more of certain ingredients, as we like lots of flavour in our sauce. I serve this over fat thick noodles, topped with some Parmesan. Tastes ever better the next day. Can't believe it took me so long to discover this amazing dish!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
Surprisingly, a very good soup recipe. Since I had a batch of homemade chicken stock, I used this instead of the boullion, and threw in some baby spinach at the end, since I had some leftover and needed to use it up. While the spinach did not add much flavour, it did add lots of vitamins and a burst of much needed colour. Overall, a very satisfying cold weather soup!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
Good as written, but with a few minor variations, this is an awesome dish. I coat the chicken (either breasts or legs) with the Taco seasoning, pour in a can of Salsa Verde (or Green salsa), add a squeeze of lime, some salt, and a pinch of sugar. Then marinate overnight. The next day, pour everything into a baking dish, add more salsa so it covers the chicken, and bake until done (or put in a crockpot). At the last minute, sprinkle shredded Monterey Jack cheese over the chicken, and put back in oven until melted. Serve over yellow rice. Amazing!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2005
Excellent cookie recipe! By far my husband's favourite. The addition of the vanilla pudding really adds a nice touch, and you can't beat the softness of these cookies. A winner!

Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2004
Great soup, after a few modifications. Leave out the spices and cream cheese, and roast the squash for better flavout. Instead of the recommended spices, add the following, for a really flavourful, rich soup: 1-1.5 Tbsp Thai Yellow Curry Paste 1 Tbsp. brown sugar 1/2 can coconut milk 1 tsp. Thai Fish sauce juice of 1 lime Adjust spice to taste, and enjoy!
