About this Cook
I love cooking but had limited knowledge of where to begin. I had tried a few recipes found on other websites online and they were always disasterous or met with a wrinkled nose or two. The few recipes I already knew had been cooked so often that my husband actually begged me to stop making them every week. Thus began two years of frequent dining out. My New Year's Resolution for 2004 was to start cooking for my family and to learn many new recipes. I stumbled across AllRecipes.com and never looked back. Dining out is rare now and my toddler daughter (!) actually refuses to eat even fast-food now.
My favorite things to cook
I now love to cook (and eat!) just about everything. My husband, on the other hand, is very picky about what I put on his plate and just about refuses to try anything new. I have been carefully screening hundreds of recipes on this site and most have been met with accolade.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't really have any cooking traditions just yet, but armed with this website, I have already been told that I am going to start hosting all our family gatherings.
My cooking triumphs
My husband is just one of "those types" where his mom is just the Greatest Cook of All Time (I still say MINE is!). After finding this website, my husband has been raving to my mother-in-law about what a fantastic cook I am and how I just "smoke her". She is now begging me for "my" recipes and being the good daughter-in-law, I share. But only some of them! I hope to pay everybody back soon by posting my own recipes learned from my Japanese mother.
My cooking tragedies
As mentioned above, I love trying my mother's unique recipes. One day about four years ago, I was attempting to duplicate her homemade potato chips for a foreign exchange student who was visiting my home for two weeks. Being very young and naive, I wasn't thinking about the temperature of the oil in the covered pot. When my (then) husband walked in, he stated that something smelled good and proceeded to check out the pot's contents. You guessed it.... the oil set on fire and in his misguided attempt to put it out, he threw the entire pot into the sink where it proceeded to set everything in that area ablaze. We finally got the fire under control and after stepping through the charred remains of my kitchen, I realized that my Japanese houseguest had whisked both of my children to safety outside in below freezing weather. Quite an embarrasing experience, my son will *not* stop telling people even four years later how "mommy burned the kitchen down"!

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
I fixed both ways... with and without the crockpot. Without the crockpot, I boiled the potatoes for a little longer. The recipe is fantastic either way!

Sweet and Sour Drumettes
My husband is not a fan of chicken but we loved this one. He actually requests that I make the sauce with extra so he can throw it on something else (like I said, he's not a big chicken fan). Definite keeper for me, though!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast
Definite favorite in this family, with no changes to the original recipe! Will try other reviewers' suggestions but I'm very happy with it as is.
