I am Multi-Racial. One word to sum up my entire family: "Mutts". Cooking has always been a BIG deal in our family. Everyone knows how to cook! We spend as much time eating, as we do preparing it. I learned how to cook when I was 12 years old. My Father made me stand next to my Mother while she cooked each meal. I make EVERYTHING from scratch. Good cooking is when you create your own dishes with your own spices because not everybody has the same pallate. If the recipe calls for a teaspoon of something, don't be afraid to add a little more of "this and that", a pinch here and there. (After you've followed it for the first time that is). As with everything else, when you cook with love and passion... nothing can go wrong!
My favorite things to cook
Thai food, since I am half Thai but I love to dabble in other areas as well. I love Italian, Seafood, Mexican, Southern and Spanish foods. I love baking too. I have the sweetest tooth so I love making deserts. Appetizers, finger foods, salads and snacks are also my favorites. Honestly, if I spent less time trying new recipes and eating all day, I would have MORE time submitting my own recipes. I'm going to have to take a whole day just to do that!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Have fun with it! Not only cooking but eating it! Getting together over the weekend, Sunday dinners or Holiday feasts have always been a favorite. Sharing new recipes. Baking holiday cookies together. Comfort food with drinks or a bottle of wine... Ah, this is the life.
My cooking triumphs
Perfection! I enjoy watching people eat my cooking and RAVE about it, then ask for the recipe. That's motivating!
My cooking tragedies
HHmmm.... I've had my share. I've ruined meats, burnt breads and added too much spice. It may take a few tries to get to perfection but adding your own creativity makes it that more challenging. Practice makes perfect, right??
