Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Loved this recipe...very easy and tasty. I may have solved the issue of the root beer taste. I made two batches of this recipe using pork shoulders for a pot luck. With the first shoulder, I put the pork in with the fat side down, added root beer about half way up the sides of the slow cooker and cooked on low for 8 hours. The pork was tender and delicious but not falling off the bone. When I cooked the second and much leaner shoulder, I placed it in the slow cooker with the fat side up, again adding root beer about half way. The second shoulder was fall off the bone tender but there was a distinct root beer taste and the pork was way too sweet. It seems having some fat melt into the liquid neutralizes the root beer flavor. At least that way my experience.
